Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Hunter Brown (HOU) vs. PIT
After a rough start to the season, Hunter Brown has pitched like an ace. According to FanGraphs, in his previous 10 starts spanning 61.0 innings, Brown has had a 2.07 ERA, 3.35 xFIP, 3.51 SIERA, 1.15 WHIP, 7.3 BB%, 26.2 K%, 27.1 CSW%, 103 Stuff+, 102 Location+ and 102 Pitching+.

Brown has a superb matchup tonight. The Pirates are 29th in wRC+ (83) with a 24.0 K% versus righties and 24th in wRC+ (88) with a 25.2 K% on the road this year. Pittsburgh was also tied for 18th in wRC+ (101) with a 20.8 K% since July 1.

Justin Steele (CHC) at CIN

Justin Steele is also cruising into tonight's start. In his last 10 starts totaling 64.0 innings, he's had a 2.39 ERA, 3.63 xFIP, 3.80 SIERA, 1.06 WHIP, 6.1 BB%, 23.0 K%, 27.2 CSW%, 99 Stuff+, 102 Location+ and 100 Pitching+.

Steele has a favorable matchup and adequate betting info. The Reds are 23rd in wRC+ (91) with a 22.4 K% versus lefties and 25th in wRC+ (90) with a 24.3 K% at home this year. Cincinnati was also tied for 22nd in wRC+ (100) with a 26.6 K% since July 1. Thus, the Cubs are -135, and the game's total is 9.0 runs.

Robbie Ray (SF) vs. OAK
Robbie Ray was lights out in his first start of the year, holding the Dodgers to one run on zero hits, two walks and eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The veteran lefty had a 23.3 SwStr%, 37.2 CSW%, 114 Stuff+, 88 Location+ and 99 Pitching+.

Ray has a potentially challenging matchup tonight. The Athletics are 10th in wRC+ (110) with a 24.0 K% versus lefties and 20th in wRC+ (91) with a 27.2 K% on the road. However, Oakland was first in wRC+ (140) with a 21.4 K% since July 1. Yet, the betting info is dreamy, with the Giants -185 and the game's total sitting at a friendly 7.5 runs.

The Diamondbacks stormed back from an 8-4 deficit in the ninth inning last night to win 9-8, and their bats can maintain their momentum in a plus matchup tonight. In 21 starts this year, Patrick Corbin has had a 5.26 ERA and 5.83 xERA. Lefties have tallied a .331 wOBA against the veteran lefty this season, and righties have tattooed him for a .357 wOBA. Furthermore, the Diamondbacks are equipped to crush him, ranking eighth in wRC+ (114) and tied for 12th in wRC+ (108) at home this year and fourth in wRC+ (124) since July 1. Unfortunately, while Christian Walker is listed in the projected lineup, he's likely a longshot to play tonight after exiting early last night with oblique tightness.

• Home (Oracle Park)
• Game Total/Moneyline: 7.5 Runs/SF -185

San Francisco is tied for second in wRC+ (120) versus lefties and 10th in wRC+ (112) at home this year. They were 10th in wRC+ (109) since July 1. Obviously, trading Jorge Soler last night won't help their lineup, but a matchup against JP Sears can help them shine. In 21 starts this season, the lefty has had a 4.81 ERA and 4.72 xERA. Additionally, he's coming off a disastrous start, coughing up eight runs (seven earned) to the Astros. Finally, Sears has allowed a .361 wOBA to right-handed batters this year.

Core Studs

• Ketel Marte is dialed in. In his previous 96 plate appearances, he's hit seven homers and stolen three bases with a .427 OBP, .275 ISO and 181 wRC+.
• Tyler Fitzgerald is having a breakout campaign. After smashing in Triple-A, he's continued to rake in the majors. In 128 plate appearances, he's hit nine homers and stolen seven bases with a .383 OBP, .319 ISO, .431 wOBA, .349 xwOBA and 186 wRC+.
• In 143 plate appearances against lefties since 2022, Heliot Ramos has hit eight homers with a .392 OBP, .298 ISO and 176 wRC+. He's an exciting DFS pick if he returns from a thumb injury that sidelined him on Sunday.

Value Plays/Punts

• In 432 plate appearances since 2022, Randal Grichuk has hit 20 homers with a .356 OBP, .239 ISO and 138 wRC+.
• Gabriel Moreno has had a .362 OBP and 119 wRC+ against lefties since 2022, and he has a DFS-friendly lineup spot, batting second against southpaws.
• In 86 plate appearances this year, Juan Yepez has hit two homers with a .407 OBP, .208 ISO and 171 wRC+.

In addition to Marte's heater, he has a track record of success against lefties. In 512 plate appearances against lefties since 2022, Marte has hit 23 homers with a .381 OBP, .238 ISO and 155 wRC+.

Lourdes Gurriel: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher/More

Lourdes Gurriel is an above-average hitter with a platoon advantage. In 378 plate appearances against lefties since 2022, Guriel has hit 22 doubles, one triple and nine homers with a .304 batting average, .448 slugging and .144 ISO. Meanwhile, Corbin has coughed up 20 doubles, seven triples, 13 homers, a .295 batting average and a .493 slugging to 405 righties this year.

Tyler Fitzgerald: 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs - Higher/More

Fitzgerald has been unstoppable. In his last 15 games and 56 plate appearances, he's hit eight homers with a .380 batting average, .940 slugging, .560 ISO, 15 runs and 15 RBIs. Fitzgerald has exceeded 1.5 hits plus runs and RBIs in 10 of his past 12 starts.
