Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Logan Gilbert (SEA) vs. LAA
Logan Gilbert's having a career year this year. According to FanGraphs, in 20 starts spanning 132.1 innings this season, Gilbert has had a 2.79 ERA, 3.12 xERA, 3.48 SIERA, 0.87 WHIP, 5.0 BB%, 24.8 K%, 29.6 CSW%, 118 Stuff+, 102 Location+ and 104 Pitching+. The young righty is also in excellent form, spinning seven quality starts in his last eight opportunities and striking out at least six batters in seven of his past eight turns.
Gilbert has an ideal matchup and betting info for staying hot. The Angels are tied for 24th in wRC+ (92) with a 23.1 K% versus righties and tied for 22nd in wRC+ (89) with a 21.0 K% on the road this year. Furthermore, the Mariners are -185, and the game's total is 7.0 runs.
Jose Berrios (TOR) vs. TB
Jose Berrios has massive home and road splits, with decidedly better numbers at home. In 24 starts totaling 147.2 innings at home since last year, Berrios has had a 3.17 ERA, 4.12 xFIP, 1.12 WHIP, 6.2 BB% and 22.0 K%.
The veteran righty has a favorable matchup tonight. The Rays are tied for 20th in wRC+ (94) with a 23.9 K% versus righties and 11th in wRC+ (101) with a 24.1 K% on the road. Thus, the Blue Jays are -160, albeit with a moderately alarming game total of 8.5 runs.
Jose Soriano (LAA) at SEA
Jose Soriano and the Angels are underdogs, but the game's low total of 7.0 runs can allow him to be a useful GPP pivot from Gilbert. Additionally, Soriano has been at his best on the road. In 55.1 innings on the road this year, he's had a 3.09 ERA, 3.89 xFIP, 1.14 WHIP, 60.8 GB%, 9.3 BB% and 19.6 K%.
The Mariners are also a strikeout-prone lineup, enhancing Soriano's upside. Seattle is tied for 20th in wRC+ (94) with a 28.7 K% versus righties and 25th in wRC+ (92) with a 29.2 K% at home this season.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Athletics have had a potent offense since June 1, ranking tied for 10th in wRC+ (110). Jake Bloss is ill-equipped to slow them down. The rookie righty pitched fewer than 50 innings in the upper minors before getting the call from the Astros, and he has had a 4.70 ERA, 4.06 xERA and 4.60 SIERA in his first two starts for Houston.
- Road (Coors Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted
The Red Sox started their series at Coors Field with a bang last night and should keep raking against Ty Blach tonight. In 16 appearances (nine starts) this year, Blach has had a 5.46 ERA, 6.24 xERA and 4.88 SIERA. The veteran lefty is a mouthwatering matchup for Boston's righties. The 198 right-handed batters who've faced Blach this season have had a .426 wOBA. Finally, Colorado's relievers have had the highest ERA (5.70) this year, and no other bullpen has posted an ERA north of 5.00.
Core Studs
- Tyler O'Neill is a terror for lefties. In 273 plate appearances against southpaws since 2022, O'Neill has hit 14 homers with a .381 OBP, .241 ISO and 145 wRC+.
- Brent Rooker is white-hot. In his past 98 plate appearances, he's ripped nine homers with a .449 OBP, .386 ISO and 233 wRC+.
- Connor Wong is breaking out at the dish, albeit with good fortune on batted balls. In 287 plate appearances in 2024, he's hit nine homers and stolen five bases with a .366 OBP, .143 ISO and 126 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- Lawrence Butler is locked in. In his last 75 plate appearances, he's hit seven homers and stolen three bases with a .400 OBP, .377 ISO and 218 wRC+.
- In 268 plate appearances for the A's this year, Max Schuemann has hit six homers and stolen nine bases with a .355 OBP, .119 ISO and 117 wRC+. Schuemann is a less appealing choice at FD, whereas Nacho Alvarez is an appealing punt instead.
- Jamie Westbrook might be a Quad-A player, yet he's punt exposure to Blach and Coors Field.
