Top 6 Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: High-Stakes Leagues (Week 17)

The best players in the world play on NFBC and the most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1,750 buy-in with a $7,000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pickups on Sunday night.

Each week, I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 17

Daniel Hudson (SP, RP – LAD)

Daniel Hudson was picked up in 45 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $71 and a minimum bid of $5. With Evan Phillips struggling as the Dodgers’ closer, it appears Hudson would be the next man up for saves. The Dodgers will likely make an upgrade at the deadline, but for the time being, Hudson could be in line for saves.

Victor Robles (OF – SEA)

Victor Robles was picked up in 44 leagues with a max bid of $57 and a minimum bid of $2. Robles has been fantastic since arriving in Seattle, hitting .390/.468/.585 with one home run and seven stolen bases. More importantly, Robles is making some of the best contact of his career during this stretch and his barrel rate is an amazing 23.5%. If he continues to hit like this and play, he could re-emerge as a fantasy star.

Victor Vodnik (RP – COL)

Victor Vodnik was picked up in 37 leagues with a max bid of $38 and a minimum bid of$2. Vodnik appears to be in the mix for saves in Colorado. While he may not be the only guy, the Rockies will likely trade Jalen Beeks at the deadline, which could give Vodnik a larger share of the saves.

Eddie Rosario (OF, DH – ATL)

Eddie Rosario was picked up in 28 leagues with a max pick-up of $38 and a minimum bid of $1. Rosario hit two home runs with a .368 average over the last week, which is the main reason why he was widely targeted. This isn’t much more than a traditional Rosario hot streak. He had hit .162/.160/203 with zero home runs the previous five weeks, so don’t fall into the trap.

Tyler Locklear (1B, 3B – SEA)

Tyler Locklear was picked up in 26 leagues with a max bid of $32 and a minimum bid of $2. With the Mariners designating Ty France for assignment, Locklear is expected to be recalled and play regularly at first base. Locklear has a decent amount of power and a good understanding of the strike zone but can struggle to make consistent contact. He is best served for deeper formats as the power is still raw and there is no guarantee he will stick in the Majors.

Hayden Birdsong (SP – SF)

Hayden Birdsong was added in 19 leagues with a max bid of $48 and a minimum bid of $3. Birdsong was coming off of his best start of his career where he struck out 12 Rockies in Colorado. He gets these same Rockies in San Francisco this week, so he is a good streaming option, but he could lose his rotation spot pretty soon due to Robbie Ray and Alex Cobb coming back from injury in the next week or two.
