News & Notes

The Yankees have the worst record in the MLB since June 15. While the bullpen hasn’t been their “biggest” issue in that span, it also hasn’t completely helped them. Clay Holmes has now allowed runs in five of his last seven appearances with his most recent appearance being a blown save on Friday against the Red Sox. Holmes still has the closer role locked up in the Yankees’ bullpen, but his struggles as of late have been noticeable.

Ryan Helsley suffered his first blown save on Friday since the third game of the season on March 30. He still leads the MLB by far with 31 saves. The closer with the most recent success has been Craig Kimbrel with five saves in the past week.

David Bednar, who is sidelined with an oblique injury, resumed playing catch on Tuesday. He’ll likely be sidelined through the All-Star break, leaving Aroldis Chapman as the primary closer for Pittsburgh.

Jordan Romano underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair an impingement in his right elbow. He is expected to be shut down for six weeks before he can resume throwing. He may be sidelined for the rest of the fantasy season. Yimi Garcia is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. He could split the closer role with Chad Gree when healthy.
