Fantasy Baseball Players to Buy Low

Which one MLB player are you trying to buy low and why? Also, who are you willing to give up for him?

Cody Bellinger (OF – CHC)

Cody Bellinger hasn’t lived up to his 2023 contract year campaign, which isn’t surprising. However, the power is still there and he could be a major bat dealt to a contender in the coming weeks. He’s better than the .734 OPS he’s posted so far, but probably not as prolific as last year’s .881 OPS. Somewhere in between and on a contender makes Bellinger a valuable second-half fantasy asset.”

Fernando Tatis Jr. (OF – SD)

“Depending on need, I’d be inquiring about the price of Fernando Tatis Jr. The outfielder has been on the IL since June 22 and will not play in the All-Star Game after being voted a starter. Perhaps the Tatis manager is worried about his performance when he returns. Or maybe the manager has a glaring need that you can fill. His expected stats indicate that we should see some improvement in his numbers, assuming he returns to health. His xSLG is 85 points higher than his current (.553!), and his xwOBA is the seventh-highest in MLB. Again, depending on need, I’m willing to give up someone like Trea Turner for him at this juncture.”

Marcus Semien (2B – TEX)

Marcus Semien – Since June 1st, he’s put up the 4th worst BABIP in baseball at just over .200, and on the season, that total is about 40 points lower than his career average. He picks it up in the second half, and we just saw him launch a home run the other day. This is a good time to buy on Semien.”

Bo Bichette (SS – TOR)

“If you’re only looking at metrics, there isn’t a very strong case to buy low on Bo Bichette. In fact, I have seen Bichette getting dropped in some leagues, which was unthinkable back in March when we were drafting these teams. He’s a mess, and fantasy managers who drafted him better have been perfect for the rest of their draft; otherwise, they likely aren’t contending right now. And that’s half of the case for buying low on Bichette: he’s either free or essentially free right now. And while he has been bad, we’ve seen his near-elite ceiling. Sometimes, the All-Star Break can do magical things. It’s a full reset. Players who were hot end up falling off after the break. Players who look a lot like Bichette looks right now get hot and look more like themselves the rest of the way. Unless he’s battling an injury, I don’t believe Bichette just forgot how to be a good hitter. Given the price tag, I’m buying Bichette and seeing if he can turn things around over the next few weeks. ”
