Travelers Championship: One-and-Done Picks & Predictions

The 2024 Travelers Championship is the eighth and final Signature Event of the PGA Tour season, providing one more week of watching the most qualified golfers on the PGA Tour compete for an elevated purse. No cut line is enforced at TPC River Highlands this week, which should cede plenty of birdies and eagles with softer scoring conditions on this par 70 course.

We’re recommending the best golfers to use in one-and done leagues, or survivor contests, during the 2024 Travelers Championship. Each golfer is labeled under a certain category, scaling from the top names, to sneaky plays, and wrapping up with my favorite golfer to deploy to maximize points at TPC River Highlands this week.

Big Guns

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler remains the betting favorite once again despite a poor showing at Pinehurst No. 2 last week. He’s still the best golfer in strokes gained: approach and turned in a T4 finish at this event in 2023. If you’ve held onto Scheffler this long, time is running out, plus it’s projected to be a birdie-fest, and the World No. 1 is motivated to bounce-back from going over par in all four rounds last week.

Xander Schauffele

After finally securing his first major win, Xander Schauffele has endured a bit of mild regression. He’s still recorded 11 top-ten finishes this season though, plus he won the 2022 Travelers, so the Californian will be comfortable navigating this short course, using every club in his bag with precision.

Secondary Options

Patrick Cantlay

Patrick Cantlay was in contention at the U.S. Open until the back-nine on Sunday and he’s also performed well at TPC River Highlands in past years. In 2023, Cantlay finished T4 alongside Scheffler at 19-under-par, which would’ve been a winning score most other years. He’s 33rd scrambling and 27th for one-putt percentage, so he should remain sharp at Travelers this week.

Brian Harman

Brian Harman has finished inside of the top-ten in three consecutive years at Travelers. It’s been a bit of a lackluster showing from Harman lately, barely breaking the top-25, but he’ll be comfortable at TPC River Highlands. His best weapon is the flat stick, ranked 24th strokes gained: putting.

Sneaky Plays

Denny McCarthy

Denny McCarthy recorded a T7 finish at this event in 2023, winding up 18-under-par. He’s top-25 in strokes gained: around the green and strokes gained putting, but he’ll need to dial in his irons and driver a bit to contend for the outright win this week. He remains a great value and should return to the top-10 leaderboard by the end of the week.

Sepp Straka

Sepp Straka’s been volatile at TPC River Highlands, however, he did card a T10 finish here in 2021 and a T38 finish in 2023. He’s the best when it comes to driver accuracy on the PGA Tour, giving himself a big advantage against the field, while the short game is a work in progress. Straka’s approach shots are solid though, giving him value in one-and-done formats and survivor leagues.

Favorite One-And-Done: Ludvig Åberg

Ludvig Åberg has quickly ascended on the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old Swede is a great ball-striker off-the-tee and on approach, while also ranking 43rd strokes gained: putting. There are hardly any flaws in Åberg’s game, plus, he’s sixth in par 4 scoring average, which form the majority of holes at TPC River Highlands.
