Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Luis Gil (NYY) vs. MIN
Luis Gil is on fire. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 32.1 innings, he's had a 0.84 ERA, 2.87 ERA, 2.99 SIERA, 0.71 WHIP, 9.2 BB%, 32.8 K%, 29.4 CSW%, 111 Stuff+, 100 Location+ and 106 Pitching+. Gil has had six consecutive quality starts, allowing one run or less in each. He's also struck out at least eight batters in his past three turns.

Gil has an OK matchup and outstanding betting info tonight. This season, the Twins are 14th in wRC+ (100) with a 23.6 K% versus righties and 12th in wRC+ (102) with a 22.4 K% on the road. In the previous 14 days, Minnesota was ninth in wRC+ (108) with a 20.3 K%. The Yankees are -165, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.

Max Fried (ATL) at BOS
Max Fried is a workhorse. He's pitched at least seven innings in four of his past five games, spinning two complete games in his last seven and lasting eight innings in his most recent start. The lefty had a quality start in five of his past seven games, striking out at least five in each of the quality starts.

Fried has a delightful matchup and rock-solid betting info. The Red Sox are 20th in wRC+ (95) with a 28.4 K% versus lefties and 27th in wRC+ (85) with a 25.6 K% at home. In the previous 14 days, Boston was 24th in wRC+ (88) with a 24.6 K%. Finally, the Braves are -165, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.

Spencer Arrighetti (HOU) vs. STL

Tonight's starting pitching options are top-heavy. The pickings are slim for a hurler with a bargain salary. Yet, if you squint, Spencer Arrighett is an intriguing SP2 at DK. In his previous five starts totaling 27.1 innings, the rookie righty's 4.61 ERA was markedly worse than his 3.92 xFIP and 4.00 SIERA. Arrighetti also had a 25.2 K% in that period. He's fanned at least six batters in three straight starts and struck out at least five in seven of his nine big-league starts.

The Cardinals have a top-10 offense against righties this year, ranking eighth in wRC+ (105). However, they also have a 24.5 K% against righties. St. Louis is also 21st in wRC+ (90) with a 24.6 K% on the road in 2024. The Astros are -150, and the game's total is 8.5 runs.

The Orioles have a top-10 offense by every meaningful split for tonight's matchup. First, they're seventh in wRC+ (106) versus righties in 2024. Second, Baltimore is eighth in wRC+ (106) on the road. Third, the Orioles were fifth in wRC+ (112) in the previous 14 days.

Righty Bowden Francis is expected to be activated from the Injured List (IL) and start or work as the bulk reliever. In five appearances (two starts) lasting 14.2 innings this season, Bowden has an 8.59 ERA, 6.07 xERA, 1.70 WHIP and allowed 2.45 HR/9. The Blue Jays also have a bottom-five bullpen.

Lefty Blake Walston will make his second big-league start and third appearance in his rookie campaign. In 38 career appearances (37 starts) in Triple-A, totaling 185.0 innings, Walston had a 4.52 ERA, 5.45 FIP, 1.59 WHIP, 13.7 BB% and 16.8 K%.

Walston has a challenging matchup tonight. The Giants are tied for ninth in wRC+ (108) versus lefties and ninth in wRC+ (105) on the road this season. Additionally, seven of their projected starters have had at least a 102 wRC+ against lefties since 2021 or debuting in the majors.

• In 263 plate appearances this season, Gunnar Henderson has a .365 OBP, .320 ISO and 168 wRC+.
• Ryan McMahon has excelled with the platoon advantage at home. In 745 plate appearances against righties at home since 2021, he's hit 36 homers with a .339 OBP, .237 ISO and .359 wOBA.
• In 226 plate appearances this season, Anthony Santander has a .301 OBP, .228 ISO and 116 wRC+.

Value Plays/Punts

• Heliot Ramos is breaking out and hit leadoff the last time the Giants faced a lefty. He's a bargain at DK and a reasonable choice at FD.
• In 426 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Jorge Soler has slugged 34 homers with a .347 OBP, .319 ISO and 142 wRC+.
• Wilmer Flores is a bargain as an above-average hitter against lefties with a DFS-friendly lineup spot. In 606 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, he's hit 21 homers with a .329 OBP, .180 ISO and 114 wRC+.

Ryan McMahon: 8.0 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog)

Ryan McMahon: 7.5 Fantasy Points - More (PrizePicks)

In addition to McMahon's stellar marks against righties at home, he's having an excellent season at the dish. In 250 plate appearances this season, he has a .371 OBP, .186 ISO and 125 wRC+. Conversely, Frankie Montas has allowed a .380 wOBA to 116 left-handed batters this season.

Gunnar Henderson: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher/More

In 738 plate appearances against righties since reaching the majors in 2022, Henderson has hit 35 doubles, nine triples and 44 homers with a .271 batting average, .551 slugging and .280 ISO. This season, he's hit seven doubles, four triples and 19 homers with a .267 batting average, .283 xBA, .587 slugging, .557 xSLG and .320 ISO in 263 plate appearances.

Ketel Marte: 8.0 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog)

Ketel Marte: 7.5 Fantasy Points - More (PrizePicks)

In 563 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Ketel Marte has had a .382 OBP, .257 ISO and 159 wRC+. The switch-hitting infielder is also having a good season at the plate. In 265 plate appearances this year, he has a .328 OBP, .228 ISO and 130 wRC+. Finally, Kyle Harrison has allowed a .348 wOBA to righties in 2024.
