Friday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
George Kirby (SEA) at MIA
George Kirby is on a roll entering tonight's start. According to FanGraphs, in his previous five starts spanning 30.0 innings, he's had a 2.70 ERA, 3.01 xFIP, 3.18 SIERA, 1.00 WHIP, 3.3 BB%, 25.0 K%, 26.3 CSW%, 110 Stuff+, 105 Location+ and 105 Pitching+. Kirby's allowed two runs or fewer in four consecutive starts, twirling three quality starts and striking out at least six in three games during that period.
Kirby has a soft matchup tonight. This season, the Marlins are 26th in wRC+ (86) with a 21.8 K% versus righties and 26th in wRC+ (88) with a 20.5 K% at home. In the previous 14 days, Miami was 28th in wRC+ (71) with a 24.0 K%. Thus, the Mariners are -160, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.
Nathan Eovaldi (TEX) vs. KC
Nathan Eovaldi isn't a flawless pick. Nevertheless, he's pitched better than his 4.34 ERA in his past four starts. In 18.2 innings in that stretch, Eovaldi had a 3.10 xFIP, 3.37 SIERA, 1.18 WHIP, 6.4 BB%, 25.6 K%, 32.2 CSW%, 100 Stuff+, 105 Location+ and 107 Pitching+.
The matchup and betting info are rock-solid, enhancing the appeal of using Eovaldi in DFS. The Royals are 18th in wRC+ (98) versus righties and tied for 25th in wRC+ (85) on the road, albeit with an unexciting 19.1 K% and 21.1 K%, respectively. Kansas City was also tied for 24th in wRC+ (88) in the previous 14 days. Finally, the Rangers are -150, and the game's total is 8.0 runs.
Kutter Crawford (BOS) at CIN
Kutter Crawford had a ghastly 6.35 ERA in his past five starts spanning 28.1 innings. Yet, his underlying data painted a different picture. In those starts, Crawford had a 3.77 xFIP, 3.48 SIERA, 1.16 WHIP, 6.7 BB%, 26.1 K%, 28.8 CSW%, 108 Stuff+, 108 Location+ and 111 Pitching+.
The Reds might be precisely what Crawford needs to correct his ugly ERA. Cincinnati is 27th in wRC+ (84) with a 26.3 K% versus righties and 29th in wRC+ (80) with a 24.1 K% at home. The Reds were also tied for 28th in wRC+ (71) with a 24.0 K% in the previous 14 days. Still, Crawford isn't a risk-free pick at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park, evidenced by the Red Sox line (-105) and the game's total (9.0 runs).
Suggested Lineup Stacks
- Road (Oakland Coliseum)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/MIN -170
The Twins have a tantalizing matchup tonight. Joey Estes had a 5.97 ERA, 4.25 xERA, 4.74 xFIP and 4.61 SIERA in seven starts this year. Estes has also coughed up 1.56 HR/9, an issue which predates this season. The young righty has surrendered a .318 wOBA to righties and a .424 wOBA to lefties.
The Twins can extend his woes for another start. Minnesota is tied for eighth in wRC+ (106) versus righties and tied for 11th in wRC+ (100) on the road. Moreover, they were first in wRC+ (152) in the previous 14 days.
- Road (Coors Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 11.0 Runs/WAS -120
The Nationals will get the Coors Field bump tonight, and facing Dakota Hudson is also a check in the pros column for stacking them. Nevertheless, Washington's lackluster offense and the potential absence of C.J. Abrams could depress the percentage of rosters they're stacked on, increasing their appeal in GPPs. Hudson's flukey 3.38 ERA in his past five starts could also throw people off of Washington's scent.
