6 Players Trending Up & Trending Down (2024 Fantasy Football)

The 2024 NFL regular season is still a few months away. However, minicamps recently wrapped up and training camps start next month. While much will change between today and Week 1, let’s look at three players whose fantasy football value is trending up and three whose value is trending down following minicamps.

Fantasy Football Trending Up & Trending Down

Trending Up

Sam Darnold (QB – MIN)

Reportedly, the Vikings are in no rush to put J.J. McCarthy on the field, believing it’s better for the rookie quarterback to learn from the bench. More importantly, the team feels there is untapped potential with Darnold despite his struggles in the past. Minnesota has named the veteran their No. 1 quarterback heading into training camp. While McCarthy could take the job away during training camp, Darnold will have a leg up on the rookie quarterback. Whoever is the Week 1 starter for the Vikings should have fantasy value.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. (RB – NYG)

Tracy was a popular late-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts after a productive college career. The former wide receiver turned running back has a potential pathway to a fantasy-relevant role as a rookie behind Devin Singletary. He shined during minicamp, impressing the coaching staff. Reportedly, Tracy has the inside track to be the Giants’ pass-catching and third-down running back. New York has targeted their running backs 103.5 times per season under Brian Daboll. With Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia, Tracy could see most of those targets in 2024.

Wan’Dale Robinson (WR – NYG)

After weeks of speculation, Darren Waller announced his retirement from the NFL. Robinson is the biggest beneficiary from Waller’s retirement. Daniel Jones loves to target the middle part of the field, which will benefit the slot receiver. In the five games he played with Jones last season, Robinson had a 26% target per route run rate and a 20.2% first-read target share (per Fantasy Points Data). Robinson will be over a year removed from a torn ACL this upcoming season. Don’t be surprised if he has a breakout year.

Trending Down

Javonte Williams (RB – DEN)

Fantasy players were unhappy with Williams last season after averaging only 9.7 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he wasn’t the same running back coming for a torn ACL. Williams’ missed tackle forced per rushing attempt average dropped from 28% as a rookie to 14% last year (per Fantasy Points Data). More importantly, his roster spot is reportedly at risk. With Jaleel McLaughlin impressing the coaching staff and the addition of Audric Estime, Williams might need to get traded to be a fantasy starter this upcoming season.

Trey Palmer (WR – TB)

Some had high hopes for Palmer heading into the 2024 season. However, the Buccaneers spent a third-round pick in the NFL Draft on Jalen McMillan. The rookie receiver was the talk of the team’s minicamp earlier this month. More importantly, the coaching staff wants to play Chris Godwin more in the slot this year after playing only 37.4% of his snaps in the slot last season. Furthermore, Tampa Bay recently signed Sterling Shepard, creating more competition for slot snaps and targets. Unfortunately, there won’t be a second-year breakout for Palmer.

Andrei Iosivas (WR – CIN)

Iosivas was a popular late-round dynasty rookie draft pick last year. He flashed upside in Week 18, totaling 18.1 half-point PPR fantasy points, giving fantasy players hope that the former Princeton receiver would earn a starting role in 2024 after Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd’s contracts expired. However, Higgins recently signed the franchise tag, keeping him in Cincinnati for at least one more season. Meanwhile, the Bengals re-signed Trenton Irwin and spent a third-round pick on Jermaine Burton. Unfortunately, Iosivas’ pathway to fantasy relevance is now extremely small.
