    • Injuries have pushed Albert Suarez and Cole Irvin back into the rotation. Dean Kremer will be back, but a Cade Povich call up should be considered imminent.

    • Casey Mize needs to go down, he’s the weak point in the rotation.

• Houston Astros:  
  • Lineup Notes:
    • Kyle Tucker has a 177wRC+.

    • Spencer Arrighetti has not been as bad as he looks – he has a 14 K-BB% and 4.04 SIERA.

• Kansas City Royals:  
  • Lineup Notes:
    • I suppose Bobby Witt Jr. should be considered in the MVP running as well with a 149 wRC+.
    • Nelson Velazquez might be starting a heater from the 5 hole.
    • Salvy is hitting .320/.383/.529, which is perhaps the best slash of his career over 50 games.

    • Brady Singer has still been very good and underrated with a 17.6 K-BB% on the season and 3.40 SIERA.
    • Seth Lugo might be the luckiest starter in baseball to date with a 1.72 ERA against a 3.85 SIERA and a .251 BABIP and near 90% LOB%.  Regression will be coming.

    • Luis Rengifo is so underrated, he plays every position and has a .368/.419/.561 slash with 2 homers and 3 steals in May, hitting second.

    • Logan O’Hoppe is hitting fifth and has 5 bombs in the months of May.

    • Gleyber Torres is breaking out of his funk with a 145 wRC+ over his last 15 games.

Fantasy Baseball Injury Notes

• OF Ronald Acuna (Braves) – The best player in baseball is out for the year (for the second time in a few years due to knee surgery) with a torn meniscus.
• OF Josh Lowe (Rays) – Lowe just got back and here he is already on his second IL stint with an oblique strain.
• 2B/3B Junior Caminero (Rays) – This one is out of respect, but Caminero is out 4-6 weeks with a quad strain further delaying his call up.
• OF Lars Nootbaar (Cardinals) – Just when he was getting hot coming off his first injury, Nootbaar hits the IL for likely a few weeks with an oblique strain.
• SP Zac Gallen (Diamondbacks) – Gallen was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain, the good news is it’s not an arm injury – but he’s likely out for a few weeks.
• SP John Means & Tyler Wells (Orioles) – The Orioles announced both starters are getting TJ… which is crazy because Means just returned from a TJ surgery… I wonder if this will be an internal brace procedure.
• SP Garrett Whitlock (Red Sox) – Whitlock had internal brace, rather than TJ this week.
• OF Tyler O’Neil (Red Sox) – O’Neil hit the IL for the second time this season now with right knee inflammation – which I’m not surprised about.  Timeline for return seems up in the air.
• OF Evan Carter (Rangers) – Carter hit the IL with back tightness and he’s actually been solid this year under the hood, while the back of baseball card numbers have been rough.
• SP Clarke Schmidt (Yankees) – Schmidt was placed on the IL with a right lat strain and is likely to miss more than a month.
• RP Edwin Diaz (Mets) – Diaz has a phantom IL stint with a shoulder impingement, seems like a good opportunity to get him corrected in the minors.
• SP Christian Javier (Astros) – Javier hit the IL for the second time this year, this time with a forearm strain with no real timeline here for return.
• SP Alec Manoah (Blue Jays) – Right when Manoah seemed to be getting his stuff together, the dude goes down with an elbow injury and is expected to miss an “extended period of time.”
• 2B Michael Massey (Royals) – Massey hit the IL with a ligament sprain in his lower back, which is a second similar injury to him this year.
• OF Kerry Carpenter (Tigers) – Carpenter is out with a back fracture and is likely missing quite a bit of time.
• RP Lucas Erceg (Athletics) – Erceg, who was having a great start to the season hit the IL with forearm tightness.

Tim’s Top 5 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Adds (12 Team Leagues)

1. SP Ben Brown (Cubs) 49% – The reason I have not had Ben Brown on this list the last couple of week is because he has been bouncing between starter and reliever.  His last start was phenomenal and if they don’t leave him in the rotation at this point, it’s criminal.  Brown has a 20.7 K-BB% and 3.17 SIERA on the season.
2. C Danny Jansen (Blue Jays) 47% – Jansen started the season on the injured list, but has been ridiculously good all season, including a .293/.365/.507 slash with 3 bombs in May.
3. 3B / OF Matt Vierling (Tigers) 34% – Kerry Carpenter was hurt and thus Vierling should get full-time playing time moving forward and he’s been a stud this entire season with a .287/.320/.497 slash and 7 homers with a 92.4 average EV.
4. SP Ryan Weathers (Marlins) 41% – Just when everyone was expecting Ryan Weathers to falter, he has been extremely impressive from a run suppression standpoint in May with a 17.9 K-BB% and 3.22 SIERA.
5. OF Jake Meyers (Astros) 38% – Meyers has been great all season, under the radar, but has especially been good throughout this month with a .329/.406/.518 slash with 3 bombs and 3 steals.

Tim’s Top 5 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Adds (15 Team Leagues)

Last Week:  1B/OF Luke Raley (Mariners, 29%), OF Jake Meyers (Astros, 11%), SP AJ Smith-Shawver (Braves, 23%), OF Heliot Ramos (Giants, 5%), SP Cade Povich (Orioles, 14%)

1. OF Joc Pederson (Diamondbacks) 29% – Joc has been starting daily and hitting third with a .324/.377/.592 slash, five bombs and two steals this month, including an over 93 average EV.
2. UTIL Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) 8% – Cutch is on an absolute tear as the vet leadoff hitter has a .277/.364/.468 slash and five homers in May.
3. OF Nelson Velazquez (Royals) 13% – Velazquez is heating up with five homers just over the last two weeks.
4. SP JP Sears (Athletics) 29% – I’m not really buying what Sears is doing, but he is putting up good ratios and pitches in an extreme pitchers park – so in super deep leagues where the pitching is dry, he might be your best bet.  I would consider him more of a streamer though and he gets a bad Seattle offense at home next week.
5. OF Heliot Ramos (Giants) 7% – Ramos has a .263/.364/.447 slash with two homers over the last two weeks, so he has slowed down a bit, but in the deeper leagues, he’s a good bet to not be owned still.

Tim’s Top 10 Fantasy Baseball Redraft Prospects

1. OF James Wood (Nationals)

• 2023 A+/AA:  .262/.353/.520 | 62 XBH, 26 HR, 18 SB
• 2024 AAA:  .353/.457/.564 | 16.5 BB%, 19.1 K% | 19 XBH, 7 HR, 10 SB
• Age: 21
• ETA:  Late June
• fScores:  102 fContact, 107 fDiscipline, 108 fPower, 135 fSpeed
• Comp:  Lefty Aaron Judge
• Prime Skills:  Light tower power from the left side of the plate.  He has a home run swing if we’ve ever seen one and has the biggest power upside of the top 10, even more than Wyatt Langford and Junior Caminero due to the huge 6’ 7” frame.  fPower likes Caminero and Langford a bit more at the moment due to the higher number of ground balls, which is the one thing concerning me about Wood right now – especially after watching Jordan Walker struggle with the same thing close-at-hand as a Cardinals fan. 
• Ranking Explanation:  Wood is on the IL right now, but the Nationals are actually rolling pretty well and we could see Wood called up upon his return from the MILB IL and a good week of production or so at AAA.

2. SP Cade Povich (Orioles):

• 2023 AA/AAA Stats:  126 2/3 IP | 171 Ks, 66 BBs | 5.04 ERA, 1.36 WHIP
• 2024 AAA Stats:  47 2/3 IP | 25.3 K-BB%, 12.2 SwStr%, 31.5 CSW% | 2.08 ERA, 1.05 WHIP
• Age: 24
• ETA:  Early June
• fScores: 106 fStuff, 93 fControl, 102 fERA
• Comp:  Matthew Liberatore, but better
• Prime Skills:  He’s a lanky lefty with some loopy stuff that plays up in the minors for K’s.  He has a lower velo fastball, but it comes out with enough extension to hide for better performance than Liberatore’s higher velo fastball.  The big pitch is his curve, which is a bit slurvy and how he tunnels it against the fastball and slider.
• Ranking Explanation:  With all of the injuries to the Orioles rotation a call up for Povich seems to be imminent.

3. 3B Junior Caminero (Rays)

• 2023 A+/AA:   .324/.384/.591 | 56 XBH, 31 HR, 5 SB

• 2024 AAA:  .301/.368/.540 | 8.8 BB% / 21.6 K%| 13 XBH, 7 HR, 1 SB
• Age: 20
• ETA: Early August
• fScores:  97 fContact, 86 fDiscipline, 121 fPower, 78 fSpeed
• Comp:  Ronald Acuna w/o the wheels
• Prime Skills:  Probably the quickest bat speed in the minors with some big time power potential.  He could be one of the best hitters in baseball sooner rather than later.  The lack of a higher walk rate and being overly aggressive might ding him a bit in points leagues, but the power will be his carrying tool right out of the gate as he should at worst put up numbers similar to Willy Adames, but with a better batting average.
• Ranking Explanation:  The Caminero injury pushes him out 4-6 weeks, plus at least another 2-3 weeks of AAA recovery time before we can expect any call up, which will likely only occur after the trade deadline at this point.

4. SP Drew Thorpe (White Sox):

• 2023 A+/AA:  139 ⅓ IP, 182 Ks, 38 BBs, 2.52 ERA, 0.98 WHIP
• 2024 AA:  36 1/3 IP, 33 Ks, 11 BBs, 1.73 ERA, 0.96 WHIP
• Age: 23
• ETA: July
• fScores:  fPDurability 61, 128 fStuff, 114 fControl, 134 fERA
• Comp:  George Kirby-light to Chris Paddack-ish
• Prime Skills:  Primarily a fastball, changeup guy (though the best attribute of the fastball is where he places it), Thorpe might remind Padres fans of former top Padres prospect Chris Paddack.  He has a nice slider he mixes in between the two and has dominated the minors to date ala Mr. Paddack.
• Ranking Explanation:  Thorpe is looking great and I’m assuming he’s only in AA because they want him pitching to Quero.  He’s probably better than a couple of the current White Sox starters, but at this point they might as well let him work in the minors a little longer with his future teammates, the big league squad doesn’t have many of their long term assets there.  Seems like he is stuck in the minors until the White Sox trade Fedde.

5. SP David Festa (Twins)

• 2023 AA/AAA:  92 1/3 IP | 119 Ks, 42 BBs | 4.19 ERA, 1.39 WHIP
• 2024 AAA:  34 IP | 22.6 K-BB%, 16.4 SwStr%, 33.4 CSW% | 3.18 ERA, 1.47 WHIP
• Age: 24
• ETA: Mid-Late June
• fScores:  115 fStuff, 93 fControl, 106 fERA
• Comp:  George Kirby without a curve and worse control
• Prime Skills:  Festa rocks a mid-90s fastball, a plus slider and above average changeup with way above average control, which will help him cement a starter’s role in the majors in the near future.
• Ranking Explanation:  I think Festa is actually better than Povich, however Povich just had his roadblock cleared, while Festa has to wait for an injury or for someone like Paddack to get shut down for innings.

6. 3B Coby Mayo (Orioles)

• 2023 AA/AAA:  .290/.410/.564, 29 HR, 5 SB
• 2024 AAA:  .282/.353/.594, 13 HR, 3 SB
• Age: 22
• ETA: Early August
• fScores: 89 fContact, 101 fDiscipline, 108 fPower, 77 fSpeed
• Comp:  Wil Myers at 3B with less speed
• Prime Skills:  Mayo has a quick and powerful swing that portends to 30-ish homer power with 10-ish steal speed, but he might strike out a lot as well.
• Ranking Explanation:  Mayo is going to be great when he gets the call, but the Orioles don’t need to promote him and I’m not convinced he’s up until Jackson Holliday gets another chance in the majors since one is on the 40 man and one isn’t.  My guess is they need to clear some room with a trade before we see Mayo in the bigs, but I still like him better than the guys lower in the rankings ultimately.

7. SP Cade Horton (Cubs):

• 2023 A/A+/AA:  88 1/3 IP, 117 Ks, 27 BBs, 2.65 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
• 2024 AA:  16 ⅓ IP, 18 Ks, 2 BBs, 1.10 ERA, 0.92 WHIP
• 2024 AAA:  7 IP, 11 Ks, 8 BBs, 10.29 ERA, 2.14 WHIP
• Age: 22
• ETA: Mid July
• fScores: 43 fPDurability, 120 fStuff, 106 fControl, 113 fERA
• Comp:  Hunter Brown
• Prime Skills:  Dude looks like a righty Jon Lester throwing 98 MPH darts and has a nasty curve.  He has shown insane command with three plus pitches between the fastball, slider and curve and should be moving pretty quickly next season due to his well above average command.
• Ranking Explanation:  Horton was promoted to AAA, bringing him one step closer to a call up.  The Cubs are competing this year and if they want their best chance down the stretch they will want Horton in the rotation.  He has had a rough start to his AAA career, but he will even out.

8. SP Adam Mazur (Padres):

• 2023 AA Stats:  96 IP, 90 Ks, 17 BBs, 2.81 ERA, 1.19 WHIP
• 2024 AA Stats:  32 ⅓ IP, 32 Ks, 5 BBs, 1.95 ERA, 0.87 WHIP

• Comp:  Tanner Bibee, but a harder more Luis Castillo like slider
• Prime Skills:  Impeccable command with a nice hard 12/6 slider and a changeup with a ton of run.  He’s been a lot more consistent with the fastball up in the zone this year.  
• Ranking Explanation:  Mazur could be the next man up for the Padres and they just don’t want him in Albuquerque.  Randy Vazquez is probably the guy for a short term injury, but Mazur in the event of a long-term injury.

9. SP Ricky Tiedemann (Blue Jays)

• 2023 Rk/A/AA/AAA:  44 IP, 82 Ks, 23 BBs, 3.68 ERA, 1.23 WHIP
• 2024 AAA:  8 IP, 10 Ks, 9 BBs, 5.63 ERA, 2.00 WHIP
• Age: 22
• ETA:  Early July
• fScores:  49 fPDurability, 121 fStuff, 96 fControl, 167 fERA
• Comp:  Good Andrew Heaney
• Prime Skills:  Tiedemann was a huge breakout last year and has a really nice fastball – slider combo.  His changeup plays great off the slider, which is probably his best pitch.  He’s a tunnel master who has a short arm / side arm funky delivery from the left side which makes his slider even tougher to pick up.  He does have bullpen risk.
• Ranking Explanation:  Despite the pen risk, his stuff is pretty ridiculous and he’s throwing again at complex so it’s possible we see him ramp up into the majors mid-season, especially with some of the rotation injuries they have been dealing with this season at the back end and Manoah possibly being hurt for a while.

1o. SS / 3B Orelvis Martinez (Jays):

• 2023 AA/AAA:  .243/.340/.496, 28 HR, 2 SB
• 2024 AAA:  .261/.346/.536, 10 HR, 0 SB
• Age:  22
• ETA:  Mid June
• Comp:  Willy Adames and Marcel Ozuna mash up
• Prime Skills:  Martinez has a ton of power and if he can manage a major league average hit tool and reign in the strikeouts, he could end up a very productive fantasy league asset.
• Ranking Explanation:  Martinez could easily be starting at 3B for the Blue Jays soon if he keeps mashing like he is in the minors.  An average EV around 90 and max EV over 115 gives him a ceiling as a top 10 power hitter in baseball, but I don’t think the contact rates are there for sustained success.
