Top 50 Starting Pitcher Rankings: Week 15
Best Matchups
- Tyler Glasnow (LAD) earned the place as one of the Cy Young favorites for good reason. The oft-injured star is showing what he can do in a healthy season, collecting a 2.88 ERA (2.39 xERA) and 0.870 WHIP alongside a glimmering 12.2 K/9. Not only is Glasnow performing at an amazing level, but his advanced metrics also show he should be doing even better. Expect him to do especially well against the Brewers, who strike out the ninth-most out of all MLB teams.
- George Kirby (SEA) is in the middle of a remarkably consistent season. The righty is placing his bid as one of the best pitchers in an incredible Mariners rotation. Kirby’s last six games have been quality starts. Fantasy managers should expect him to do well even against a scary Baltimore lineup.
- Pablo Lopez (MIN) had 14 strikeouts the last time he pitched. Four. Teen. Lopez has a 5.11 ERA and has not been acting like the ace fantasy managers expected him to be. Fourteen strikeouts can be a welcome change of momentum and Lopez should do well against the Astros, even if he doesn’t get quite as many strikeouts this time.
Unfavorable Matchups
- Shota Imanaga (CHC) showed he was human when he allowed 10 runs in a meltdown against the Mets. Although the veteran rookie recently bounced back through a quality start in San Francisco, he faces the Phillies this week. They have the highest winning percentage for a reason. Fantasy managers should lower their expectations for Imanaga this week.
- Luis Gil‘s (NYY) limited innings have finally caught up to him. The phenom has thrown 85.2 innings, far above his workload in recent seasons. It appears this pressure has caught up to Gil, who has given up 12 runs in his last two starts (5.2 innings). Do not trust Gil in his two-start week versus Cincinnati and Boston.
- Carlos Rodon (NYY) ignored analytics earlier this season during a fascinating seven-game win streak. The southpaw had a 3.08 ERA compared to a 4.21 expected ERA. Sadly, regression has hit Rodon. Hard. The Yankees pitcher has allowed 20 runs in his last three starts from 28 hits and six walks in 13.2 innings. This is a horrible streak to take into a matchup against any team, even the Reds.
