Welcome to the FantasyPros Week 8 starting pitcher rankings for 2024. On Fridays, we view the upcoming week and rank starting pitchers based on their talent and the team they play against. These rankings are for the week of Monday, May 13, through Sunday, May 19.
These rankings use expert consensus rankings (ECR) as a starting point. Matchup information is found on the helpful Pitcher Planner’s resource for probable pitchers.
As usual, remember that some starts are projected over a week in advance. Dates can change due to rain, injury or anything else. Two-start weeks pitchers often end up as one-start weeks.
Sometimes it is best to treat a second start as a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation, especially during a rainy spring season. Be sure to check the Pitcher Planner later on for more up-to-date information.

Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Rankings: Week 8
Pitchers (Hopefully) on Waivers
- Nestor Cortes is set to face the White Sox next week who rank 29th in BA and 30th in both OBP and SLG on the year. Cortes is rostered in 48.5% of ESPN leagues and worth a spot start against Chicago after tallying nine strikeouts in his last outing.
- Kyle Harrison has recorded five quality starts across eight appearances this season. Despite the hot start he is available in more than half of ESPN leagues. If you see him on the wire, snag him; his next outing is against the Rockies. Colorado is third in K% over the last two weeks.
- Gavin Stone is 3-1 as a full-time starter in 2024 after splitting time between the rotation and bullpen in 2023. Stone is limiting quality contact for his opponents. He is currently in the 80th percentile in average EV and the 85th percentile in HH%. Stone is rostered in only 16.6% of ESPN leagues and will face the Giants who are 26th overall in HHs since 4/22.
Best Matchups
- Corbin Burnes will go twice next week with both starts coming against struggling lineups. The Orioles’ righty faces the Blue Jays and the Mariners. Seattle currently paces MLB in K% and is 25th in BA at .223 as a team. Over it’s past 15 games, Toronto is hitting just .228 and has scored 48 runs. That run total is 27th overall during that span.
- Dylan Cease could have a light week at work pitching just once against the Rockies. Colorado is fourth in total strikeouts and 28th in runs scored this season. Cease brings in a 2.19 ERA and MLB’s fourth-best K% at 32.4%.
Unfavorable Matchups
- Max Fried‘s next start against the Padres should give his managers cause for concern. San Diego is second in BA, seventh in OBP and ninth in SLG this season. The Padres also do not strike out. Their K% of 19.6% is fifth-best and Max Fried comes into this start in the 35th percentile in the category.
- Logan Webb has the unfortunate task of pitching to the Dodgers next week. For those unfamiliar with team offense in 2024, the Dodgers are first in BA, OBP, SLG and therefore OPS. Webb isn’t in the best form either, he has allowed eight ERs over his last two starts in 7.2 IP.
- Tanner Bibee will have two starts next week against the Rangers and the Twins. Unfortunately, both teams are hot at the plate. Minnesota and Texas are first and sixth in runs scored over the past two weeks. The Twins are hitting an impressive .290 in that span and the Rangers are in the bottom third in K% on the season.
