Welcome to the FantasyPros Week 7 fantasy baseball starting pitcher rankings for 2024. On Fridays, we view the upcoming week and rank starting pitchers based on their talent and the team they play against. These fantasy baseball pitcher rankings are for Monday, May 6, through Sunday, May 12.
These rankings use expert consensus rankings (ECR) as a starting point. Matchup information is found on the helpful Pitcher Planner’s resource for probable pitchers.
As usual, remember that some starts are projected over a week in advance. Dates can change due to rain, injury or anything else. Two-start weeks pitchers often end up as one-start weeks.
Sometimes it is best to treat a second start as a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation, especially during a rainy spring season. Be sure to check the Pitcher Planner later on for more up-to-date information.

Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Rankings
Pitchers (Hopefully) on Waivers
- Erick Fedde won the Korea Baseball Organization’s (KBO) league MVP in 2023. Fedde was a below-average MLB starter before going international, but he looks like a new and confident pitcher after returning to the Major Leagues. His past three starts have shown promise, with 25 strikeouts and just three runs allowed in 20 innings. Claim the KBO MVP for his game facing Cleveland.
- Spencer Turnbull has been wonderful this year, yielding a 1.67 ERA as a starter. Unless the Phillies management moves Turnbull to the bullpen, he is a more-than-viable starter. Check to see if he is on waivers.
- Seth Lugo is consistently excellent so far, besides a mishap against Baltimore. Although the Kansas City starter has the potential to throw the occasional bad game, he is a guy who helps fantasy teams throughout the whole season.
Best Matchups
- Luis Castillo turned things around after a lackluster start to 2024. Be excited to see the ace for his two-start week.
- Max Fried countered his horrendous start to the year with a complete game shutout vs. Miami and a quality start in Seattle. Look for the southpaw to continue climbing the rankings this week.
- Bryce Miller is building off of a successful 2023 rookie season. Feel confident starting him against any team, but he should feast against the A’s. Fantasy managers would be lucky to get as many pieces of the Mariners’ elite rotation as they can.
Unfavorable Matchups
- Reid Detmers gave fantasy managers hope he would be an ace this year after a nearly perfect beginning to 2024. Sadly, his latest three starts have shown his floor (1.52 WHIP and 5.26 ERA in 17.1 IP). Beware a pitcher on a cold streak.
- Zach Eflin broke out in 2023, earning sixth place for the Cy Young Award. Eflin’s season was much better than his career averages and 2024 appears closer to his career norm. Start him against the White Sox, yet prepare for Eflin to disappoint this year.
- Carlos Rodon may have tricked us yet again. He dominated the A’s (though admittedly not very hard) and the Brewers in back-to-back quality starts. Frustratingly, he blew up against the Orioles and allowed six runs in four innings. Rodon’s matchup at home versus the Astros is not the toughest, but Rodon is one of the most inconsistent pitchers out there.
- Walker Buehler is a star. Regardless, fantasy managers should be cautious about starting him. Buehler has not pitched since mid-2022 and will inevitably be rusty.
Top 50 Pitchers (5/6 – 5/12)
Nathan Eovaldi is not on this list due to an uncertain right groin injury.
