Dynasty Rookie Draft Pick Review

1.04 – Malik Nabers (WR – NYG)

There will be some small worries about Malik Nabers landing in New York, but I’m not worried about him at all. Nabers is a target hog and an immediate alpha in the NFL. We can talk about what his ceiling is with Daniel Jones under center in 2024, but I have no worries about his short and long-term dynasty value with this landing spot. Nabers should begin feasting on a bevy of targets immediately. There’s no one else on this Giants roster that can draw targets at a strong rate. Last year, outside of Darren Waller, no receiver on the roster drew more than a 16.9% target share. While the volume he accrues in 2024 likely won’t be the most efficient, Nabers should still see all the targets he can handle to produce solid WR2 numbers. Nabers should be gone inside the top three picks in every dynasty rookie draft.

2.04 – Michael Penix Jr. (QB – ATL)

The Falcons drew heavy criticism by selecting Penix with the No. 8 pick in the draft after signing Kirk Cousins to a lucrative four-year contract in the offseason. Penix has no clear path to playing time in 2024, although it should be noted that Cousins is coming off a torn Achilles and is entering his age-36 season. Penix has a strong, accurate arm and is good at sack avoidance, having taken just 16 sacks over his last two college season. Penix has a worrisome injury history, however. He’s torn his ACL twice and has also endured shoulder issues. Penix won’t be draftable in most redraft leagues, though he’d become a popular waiver-wire addition if Cousins were to go down.
– Pat Fitzmaurice

3.04 – Ray Davis (RB – BUF)

Davis heads to the snowy northeast to join the Buffalo Bills via the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Davis should already be considered the favorite for the RB2 job with the Bills. James Cook will still lead this backfield and likely gobble up most (possibly all) of the passing game work. Davis has a three-down skillset, but his pass-game chops are on the same level as Cook’s. Expect him to ease the early down load for Cook with the upside to cut into his red zone volume some, but be mindful that the inside the five-yard line pie is smaller in Buffalo compared to some other teams, with Josh Allen always getting a decent share of the work. Davis should be selected in the third round of your dynasty rookie drafts.

4.04 – Isaac Guerendo (RB – SF)

The 49ers selected the 6’0″, 220lb back with 4.3 speed in the fourth round of this year’s draft. It’s a yearly tradition for the 49ers to take a back on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. This one makes a ton of sense for their zone run scheme while also factoring in that Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason are both free agents after this season. Guerendo could be the primary backup to Christian McCaffrey as soon as 2025, while also mentioning that McCaffrey will be a free agent in 2026. Guerendo’s per-carry efficiency and pass-game upside are quite interesting, and with a landing spot that has sneaky upside like this, he is a perfect third-round dice roll in rookie drafts.
– Derek Brown

5.04 – Rasheen Ali (RB – BAL)

Rasheen Ali dominated production at Marshall with a 36% dominator rating or better in two of his three seasons as a starter. He scored 23 TDs and rushed for nearly 1,400 yards in his first year as a starter back in 2021. He just turned 23 years old and was drafted by the Ravens in the 5th round.
