PGA DFS Advice & Picks: Wells Fargo Championship (2024)

PGA DFS Advice & Picks: Wells Fargo Championship (2024)

It was a tough week for my player pool at the Byron Nelson. Apart from having winner Taylor Pendrith and 36-hole leader Jake Knapp, I was crippled by an alarming number of high-exposure players who failed to reach the weekend. It happens and it stinks. Thankfully, the next two events are circled on my calendar as high-confidence weeks on which I will play aggressively.

This week’s Wells Fargo Championship happens to be of the signature variety. It can be assured every lineup will have six golfers playing 72 holes. The level playing field means leverage is very important. It also emphasizes having heavy exposure to certain golfers who are expected to perform well. With only 68 men in the field, mass multi-entry (MME) contests will assuredly have duplicates at the top. This should still not deter one from trying their hand if they can bankroll the maximum number of lineups allowed.

The Wells Fargo Championship is a stellar event on the PGA Tour calendar. Host course Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina is a beastly challenge of the entire golf bag. Measuring more than 7,500 yards, the par-71 layout requires a great deal of length off the tee. That is not to say accuracy is not also imperative. The fairways are on the narrow side and the tricky Bermuda greens are like postage stamps from the longer approach distances the players will encounter on most holes.

As outlined above, it will be best to pick your spots on the chalkier players. This is especially true once you descend from the high-priced studs at the top. Remember that rostership is more concentrated in the smaller field of players, so don’t be alarmed when Rory McIlroy and others exceed 25%. That’s still relatively tame. With barbecue sauce dripping from my chin, let’s dig in.
