2024 Dynasty Fantasy Football Guide

Must-Have Dynasty Rookie Draft Targets

Here are a few dynasty rookie draft targets that our analysts are prioritizing.

Kimani Vidal (RB – LAC)

Never mind the modest draft capital spent on him and the poor hit rate for sixth-round running backs. Vidal is an underrated prospect who won the landing-spot lottery when he wound up with the Chargers. With Jim Harbaugh in command and Greg Roman calling the plays, the Chargers figure to be one of the run-heaviest teams in the league. Vidal’s backfield competition is Gus Edwards, who’s extremely one-dimensional, and J.K. Dobbins, who’s endured a major knee injury and a torn Achilles. Kimani Vidal, Troy University’s all-time leading rusher, has an excellent chance to play a substantial role for the Chargers and immediately become fantasy-relevant.

Erick All (TE – CIN)

The Bengals smashed this draft class and selected another one of my man crushes of this draft class with Erick All. Consider me ALL IN on All (ok, I’ll see myself out after that dad joke).

Let’s get this out of the way. No, I’m not worried about his injury history. The back injury that led to the premature ending of his 2022 season was proven to be in the rearview after he started crushing souls in 2023 without issues. His 2023 season was cut short due to a torn ACL, which is the only injury recovery that concerns me, but hey, I’m an ardent believer in modern medicine and science. All should make a complete recovery from that injury as well.

So, what’s left to debate here? Landing spot? Ok, he’s tied to Joe Burrow, with only Mike Gesicki above him on the depth chart for receiving work. Draft capital? He was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft despite his final season being cut short and All being unable to athletically test, which, by the way, his film more than confirms he is PLENTY athletic. Analytical profile? All has ranked in the top 10 in yards per route run in each of the last two collegiate seasons in which he was healthy enough to garner at least 20 targets (per PFF). Oh, also, he ranked first in yards per route run and eighth in PFF receiving grade against man coverage (among all tight ends last year with at least ten man coverage targets).

All is a wondrous gift that the dynasty community is giving you this year by letting him slip in drafts. SMASH THE DRAFT BUTTON in the late second round or early third round of rookie drafts if he’s there (he will be).

Javon Baker (WR – NE)

Javon Baker couldn’t sniff the field at Alabama (he wanted the ball), so he transferred to UCF during the last two seasons of his college tenure. He enjoyed two strong seasons with the Knights, posting dominator ratings of 23% and 31%. The 6-foot-1, 202-pound WR was a big-play savant, owning the second-highest yards per reception (21.9) nationally in 2023. He ended the season fifth in yards per route run among the 2024 WR draft class (3.21).

Baker reminds me a ton of DeVonta Smith from a route-running and body-control perspective, but Baker has more size and YAC to his game. He was drafted by the Patriots in Round 4 but could make some noise on a relatively weak depth chart. Even though the Patriots drafted Washington’s Ja’Lynn Polk two rounds ahead of Baker, I think the 4th-rounder offers a much higher ceiling as a potential alpha in New England’s passing game. Baker finished fourth in targets and third in receptions of 20-plus air yards in 2023. The only other WRs in the class to do so? The consensus top-four (Marvin Harrison Jr., Rome Odunze, Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers), who were all selected in Round 1.
