Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) vs. MIA
Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been lights out since an ugly MLB debut in Korea. According to FanGraphs, in six subsequent starts spanning 33.0 innings, Yamamoto has had a 1.64 ERA, 2.76 SIERA, 0.97 WHIP, 5.3 BB%, 30.5 K%, 33.8 CSW%, 105 Stuff+, 106 Location+ and 108 Pitching+. Additionally, he's had three consecutive quality starts.
Yamamoto should cook again tonight in a plus matchup. This season, the Marlins are 26th in wRC+ (87) against righties and 26th in wRC+ (79) on the road. The Dodgers are -295, and the game's total is 8.5 runs, enhancing the case for Yamamoto as the best pitcher on tonight's slate.
Shota Imanaga (CHC) vs. SD
Shota Imanaga has allowed half as many earned runs (three) as starts he's made (six). In a half-dozen starts totaling 34.2 innings, the lefty has a 0.78 ERA, 2.76 xERA, 3.04 SIERA, 0.75 WHIP, 3.0 BB%, 26.5 K%, 25.7 CSW%, 99 Stuff+, 106 Location+ and 108 Pitching+.
The 30-year-old lefty has a favorable matchup tonight. The Padres are 20th in wRC+ (92) against lefties this season. The betting info isn't sterling. Still, it's rock-solid. The Cubs are -134, albeit with a slightly intimidating total of 9.0 runs. Imanaga is an intriguing GPP choice.
Jose Butto (NYM) at STL
Jose Butto is a useful SP2 at his affordable salary on DK. In five starts spanning 28.0 innings this year, he has a 2.57 ERA, 4.00 xERA, 3.97 SIERA, 1.07 WHIP, 12.4 BB%, 27.4 K% and 26.5 CSW%. Butto has pitched at least 5.2 innings in four starts this year, reaching precisely 6.0 three times. He's also struck out at least six batters four times.
The Cardinals are a nifty matchup tonight. This season, the Cardinals are 24th in wRC+ (89) and have a 24.6 K% against righties and 25th in wRC+ (85) at home. The Mets are slight underdogs (+108), but the game's total (8.5 runs) isn't terrifying.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Dakota Hudson is a tantalizing matchup for hitters. In six starts this season, he has a slate-high 5.93 ERA, 5.29 xERA, 5.27 SIERA, 1.68 WHIP, 12.1 BB% and 12.8 K%. Hudson is backed by a bottom-five bullpen. And, of course, Coors Field is MLB's most hitter-friendly ballpark. It's an ideal layout for San Francisco's offense.
- Home (Target Field)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 8.0 Runs/MIN -146
The Twins have a bargain stack with upside. Opposing starter Emerson Hancock has a 4.75 ERA, 5.47 xERA, 4.48 SIERA, 1.29 WHIP and 1.48 HR/9 in six starts this season. Six of Minnesota's projected starters have had at least a 102 wRC+ against righties since 2021, and five have had at least a 113 wRC+. They're not a flawless offense, but their upside in tonight's matchup exceeds their affordable salaries.
Core Studs
- In 429 plate appearances against righties on the road since 2021, Michael Conforto has hit 17 homers with a .343 OBP, .201 ISO and 113 wRC+. Conversely, Hudson has allowed 240 lefties a .355 wOBA since last season.
- LaMonte Wade is another enticing piece of left-handed exposure to Hudson. In 560 plate appearances against righties on the road since 2021, Wade has hit 19 homers with a 376 OBP, .158 ISO and 122 wRC+.
- Edouard Julien is a stellar pick on both DFS providers, but he's more appealing on FD, where he can be used with another forthcoming second baseman. In 461 career plate appearances against righties since debuting last season, Julien has hit 22 homers with a .387 OBP, .231 ISO and 147 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- In 207 career plate appearances against lefties at home, Brendan Rodgers has hit seven homers with a .386 OBP, .182 ISO, .386 wOBA and 119 wRC+.
- Jordan Beck is punt exposure to Coors Field. In 121 plate appearances in Triple-A this season, he hit five homers and stole five bases with a .405 OBP, .287 ISO and 143 wRC+.
- Blake Sabol is fine on FD. Still, he was included as an affordable catching option at DK. In 298 career plate appearances against righties, he has a .313 OBP, .178 ISO and 104 wRC+.
