Friday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Cole Ragans (KC) vs. OAK
Cole Ragans has been exceptionally unlucky lately. In his previous five starts spanning 25.2 innings, he's had a 6.31 ERA. However, according to FanGraphs, he also had a 3.29 xFIP, 3.58 SIERA, 1.36 WHIP, 8.1 BB%, 25.2 K%, 28.2 CSW%, 114 Stuff+, 101 Location+ and 107 Pitching+.
Gamers should overlook his ugly ERA and trust his underlying data. The lefty has a get-right matchup tonight. This year, the Athletics are tied for 19th in wRC+ (93) with a 24.8 K% against lefties. Oakland is also 26th in wRC+ (83) with a 27.9 K% on the road this season.
Kyle Harrison (SF) vs. COL
Kyle Harrison has outkicked his peripherals. In his previous five starts spanning 27.0 innings, the young lefty's 2.33 ERA was much better than his 4.42 xFIP and 4.28 SIERA. Still, Harrison had a respectable 22.6 K% and recently spun a gem against tonight's opponent at Coors Field, holding the Rockies scoreless across 7.0 innings on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts on May 7.
This time, Harrison draws the Rockies in San Francisco. Colorado stinks against southpaws, ranking tied for 26th in wRC+ (77) with a 24.3 K% against them in 2024. They're also lousy on the road, sitting 27th in wRC+ (82) and tallying a 26.7 K% on the road this season. Thus, the Giants are -180, and the game's total is 7.5 runs.
Jesus Luzardo (MIA) vs. NYM
Jesus Luzardo has pitched well in two starts since returning from the Injured List (IL). In addition, he's a beast at home. In 129.1 innings at home since last season, Luzardo has had a 3.34 ERA, 3.64 xFIP, 1.11 WHIP, 7.9 BB% and 29.3 K%.
The lefty's matchup isn't perfect. The Mets are second in wRC+ (117) on the road this year. However, New York is tied for 19th in wRC+ (93) against lefties. They were also tied for 21st in wRC+ (89) in the previous 14 days. The Marlins are slight underdogs (EVEN), which could drive many gamers toward opposing starter Christian Scott. Still, the game's total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs, and using Luzardo as a lower-rostered pitcher would be a plus in GPPs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Frankie Montas isn't a punching bag. Yet, he's a mediocre righty, and that won't cut it against LA's loaded offense. This season, the Dodgers are tied for first in wRC+ (127) against righties. LA is also first in wRC+ (137) at home. Furthermore, their projected starters have had at least a 106 wRC+ against righties since 2021, and five have had at least a 124 wRC+.
- Road (Oriole Park at Camden Yards)
- Game Total/Moneyline: Unlisted
The Mariners don't have an obviously soft matchup, so they'll likely fly under the radar, making them an appealing GPP stack. If Jorge Polanco and Mitch Garver return from absences with minor issues, Seattle's lineup should feature seven hitters with at least a 115 wRC+ against lefties since 2021 and no one with worse than a 99 wRC+. The Mariners have a deep lineup with above-average hitters against southpaws.
Core Studs
- Shohei Ohtani is blistering baseballs and kills righties. Since 2021, he's had a .404 OBP, .326 ISO and 174 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.
- Mookie Betts is also having a monster season at the dish, with a track record of lighting up righties. Since 2021, he's had a .373 OBP, .238 ISO and 147 wRC+ against righties.
Value Plays/Punts
- In 287 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Mitch Garver has hit 15 homers with a .376 OBP, .238 ISO and 145 wRC+.
- In 407 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Mitch Haniger has hit 20 homers with a .329 OBP, .215 ISO and 122 wRC+.
- In 112 plate appearances this season, Joey Ortiz has a .384 OBP, .234 ISO and 154 wRC+.
- Jonathan Aranda is a punt-priced cleanup hitter. That alone makes him an intriguing punt. However, he's also proven all he can in Triple-A. In 954 plate appearances in Triple-A since 2022, he's hit 44 homers with a .415 OBP, .228 ISO and 148 wRC+.

Shohei Ohtani: 1.5 Total Bases - Higher/More

Kyle Harrison: 5.5 Strikeouts - Higher/More
Harrison is a holdover from the DFS suggestions. He's feasted at home in his young career. In 41.1 innings at home since debuting in the majors in 2023, Harrison has had a 3.27 ERA, 3.98 xFIP, 1.14 WHIP, 48 strikeouts, 10.45 K/9 and a 27.4 K%. He's gone over 5.5 strikeouts in two of four home starts this year, with an average of 6.25 and a median of 6.0.
The young lefty has a desirable matchup to bolster his strikeout potential. This year, the Rockies have a 24.3 K% against lefties and a 26.7 K% on the road. They've also had a 23.4 K% in the previous 14 days.
