Thursday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Sonny Gray (STL) at MIL
Sonny Gray is lights out this year. According to FanGraphs, in five starts spanning 30.1 innings, he has a 0.89 ERA, 2.33 xERA, 2.36 SIERA, 0.86 WHIP, 4.4 BB%, 33.3 K%, 31.8 CSW%, 95 Stuff+, 106 Location+ and 106 Pitching+. Furthermore, Gray has pitched four consecutive quality starts, striking out at least six batters in each.
The matchup isn't ideal, but the betting info is good. The Cardinals are -120, and the game's total is a non-threatening 8.0 runs.
Reid Detmers (LAA) vs. KC
Reid Detmers's 4.24 ERA this season isn't exciting. However, his 3.24 xERA and 3.53 SIERA are rock-solid. The lefty also has a DFS-friendly 26.7 K%. Moreover, in 102.2 innings at home since last season, Detmers has had a 28.2 K%.
Detmers has a plus matchup tonight. This season, the Royals are 26th in wRC+ (79) against lefties and tied for 26th in wRC+ (78) on the road. The betting info is essentially neutral and shouldn't dissuade gamers from using Detmers in DFS.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Guardians are the most exciting stack on a slate that lacks mouthwatering options. Erick Fedde is approximately an average pitcher. Yet, Chicago's bullpen is slightly below average to significantly below average. The White Sox have the 12th-highest bullpen ERA. However, they also have the second-highest bullpen xFIP. As a result, Cleveland is an intriguing stack.
Core Studs
- Since 2021, Jose Ramirez has had a .361 OBP, .237 ISO and 140 wRC+ against righties.
- Josh Naylor has kicked his production up a notch. In 147 plate appearances this year, he's swatted nine homers with a .361 OBP, .270 ISO and 152 wRC+ with an increased launch angle and uptick in exit velocity.
Value Plays/Punts
- Estevan Florial is a lineup-spot-driven punt, serving as Cleveland's leadoff hitter while Steven Kwan is on the Injured List (IL).
- Paul DeJong is on a mini-heater, homering in back-to-back games and recording multiple hits in three of his previous four games.
- In 59 plate appearances since April 8, Alec Burleson has hit three homers with a .356 OBP, .182 ISO and 144 wRC+.
Thursday's Top 3 Underdog Fantasy and PrizePicks Player Props
Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
Jose Ramirez: 8.5 Fantasy Points - Higher (Underdog Fantasy)
Jose Ramirez: 7.5 Fantasy Points - More (PrizePicks)
Ramirez was featured as a core stud with appealing props at Underdog and PrizePicks. In addition to his track record of success against righties, the switch-hitting third baseman is stuffing the box score this year. In 159 plate appearances in 2024, Ramirez has a precisely average 100 wRC+. However, he also has hit seven homers and stolen five bases.
Paul DeJong: 0.5 Total Bases - Higher/More
DeJong has had a hit in back-to-back games and six of eight contests. In addition, he's found his footing at the dish. In 68 plate appearances since his first multi-hit effort in 2024 on April 17, DeJong has had a .274 batting average.
Ben Lively isn't a terrifying matchup, either. Since last year, the veteran righty has allowed a .248 batting average to 225 righties. Thus, DeJong is on the Underdog Cheat Sheet and PrizePicks Cheat Sheet, projecting to have 1.1 total bases tonight.
Reid Detmers: 4.5 Strikeouts - Higher (Underdog 0.75x)
Reid Detmers: 5.0 Strikeouts - More (PrizePicks)
Detmers is a strikeout whiz. He can overcome a challenging matchup for strikeouts. In 102.2 innings at home since last year, Detmers has had a 28.2 K%, 10.78 K/9 and 123 strikeouts. Additionally, he's struck out at least 5.0 batters in 14 of 18 home starts since last season.
