Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups: Jordan Beck, Vidal Brujan, Tyler Black

Each week, I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them in our own leagues.

Week 7 High-Stakes FAAB League (2024 Fantasy Baseball)

Let’s dive into the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups among the expert community to see who you should consider adding to your rosters.

Tyler Black (2B, 3B – MIL)

Black was the most picked-up player in NFBC Main Event leagues this week, getting added in 57 leagues with a max bid of $315 and a minimum bid of $38. Black is a Brewers prospect that had a massive 2023 in the minor leagues, hitting 18 home runs and stealing 55 bases between AAA and AA. He has a massive amount of upside if he is playing every day, especially in the stolen base department.

Christian Scott (RP, SP – NYM)

Scott was the most expensive prize in FAAB this week, going for a maximum bid of $677 and a minimum of $197 in the 33 leagues in which he was added. Scott is a top pitching prospect that has all the right tools to be very successful in the Majors if his control and command are in order.

Joey Loperfido (2B, CF, OF, RF – HOU)

Loperfido is another prospect that had a great 2023, hitting 24 home runs and stealing 24 bases between AAA and AA. He started off strong in 2024 as well, with 13 home runs and five stolen bases in AAA before his promotion last week. That performance is why he was picked up in 56 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $281 and a minimum bid of $30. However, the problems with Loperfido are the strikeouts and the role. He struck out at a 30% rate in AAA this year and last. If he can cut down the strikeouts, he could stick in the powerful Astros lineup, but if he doesn’t he may end up back in the minors.

Daniel Hudson (RP, SP – LAD)

Hudson was picked up in 53 Main Event leagues, with a max bid of $250 and a minimum bid of $30. With Evan Phillips hitting the IL, this is pure speculation that Hudson will be the next man up in LA. However, this has all the makings of a committee with Hudson, Blake Treinen, and Joe Kelly all likely to be in the mix.

Jordan Beck (CF, LF, RF – COL)

Beck was picked in 49 leagues with a max bid of $154 and a minimum bid of $1. It isn’t surprising that Beck was added in so many leagues, as he is a Rockies prospect and they have a home week at Coors, but the larger bids are a bit puzzling. Beck is a decent prospect, but he doesn’t have a massive tool or an amazing track record. I think he is a player to roster for home series, but other than that, I don’t know that he registers for most leagues.

Vidal Brujan (2B, 3B, SS – MIA)

Brujan is a former top prospect that has earned regular playing time in Miami and with the departure of Luis Arraez, he is in line for an even bigger role. He was picked up in 47 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $84 and a minimum bid of $1. Brujan was a top 20 prospect at one point, but he struggled to make it translate in the Majors. He is now hitting .286/.355/.429 with two stolen bases. He has the ability to steal 50+ bases this season if he can get on base and he should be rostered in most formats.

Jack Leiter (SP – TEX)

Leiter is a top pitching prospect that struggled in his first Major League start before getting sent down. He was picked up in 40 leagues, with a max bid of $56 and a minimum bid of $3, because he is expected to be recalled to face the A’s. Leiter has very good stuff, but his command and control can be an issue. While the A’s are a good matchup on paper, they are tied for the second-most home runs this season, so there is a lot of risk to this start.
