Fantasy Baseball Pitcher Rankings: Week 10 (2024)

Welcome to the FantasyPros Week 10 starting pitcher rankings. On Fridays, we view the upcoming week and rank starting pitchers based on their talent and the team they play against. These rankings are for Monday, May 27, through Sunday, June 2.

These rankings use expert consensus rankings (ECR) as a starting point. Matchup information is found on the helpful Pitcher Planner’s resource for probable pitchers.

Top 50 Starting Pitcher Rankings: Week 10

As usual, remember that some starts are projected over a week in advance. Dates can change due to rain, injuries, or anything else. This can lead to two-start pitchers sometimes making just one.

It is often best to treat a second start as a pleasant surprise rather than an expectation, especially during a rainy spring season. Be sure to check the Pitcher Planner later on for more up-to-date information.

Pitchers (Hopefully) on Waivers

  • Jack Flaherty looks to be in 2019 form. The righty has had a mediocre career outside his season a half-decade ago, but he appears to have found success in Detroit. At the time of writing, Flaherty is in second place for strikeouts in all the majors with 81. Grab him for the K upside.
  • Alek Manoah’s 2023 may have been the most deflating sports performance ever. In 2022, Manoah earned third place in American League Cy Young voting, only to be optioned to the minors in a brutal follow-up campaign. I do not blame managers who want nothing to do with the Blue Jay, but he looks good. Manoah has responded to his sour 2024 debut with back-to-back seven-inning shutouts.
  • Austin Gomber is on this list. I know. Hear me out. In his last four starts, the he has thrown 26.2 innings, striking out 19 while only allowing two runs from 16 hits and six walks. Will this unlikely star go back to being his old self? Most certainly. Is he worth grabbing for a start against Cleveland, and available in almost every league? Also yes. Whatever you do, do not start Gomber against the Dodgers later in the week.

Best Matchups

  • Max Fried threw a complete game this week. It will be exciting to see how he carries this momentum to a two-start week against Washington and Oakland.
  • Yu Darvish returns! The veteran has not allowed a run in four starts since returning from a neck injury. He most recently faced the Braves and Dodgers and utterly dominated. Hopefully, he will remain in form to face the seemingly lesser Marlins.
  • Luis Gil appears electric. Things are finally coming together for the 26-year-old, who has 22 strikeouts in his most recent pair of starts. He should keep collecting strikeouts against the Angels this week.

Unfavorable Matchups

  • Dylan Cease allowed five runs, including two homers, facing the Braves on May 20. These outings happen for any pitcher, and it is not too much cause for concern. However, Cease now must bounce back against a hardy Royals team.
  • Logan Gilbert is in a funk. He has allowed 14 runs in his last three starts (16.2 innings). Though two of these three games have ended up as quality starts, they were not pretty. Start Gilbert, but do not be disappointed if he struggles to regain his form versus Houston.
  • Michael King gets strikeouts. He is also very good at making his fantasy managers upset. He threw a seven-inning, 11-strikeout shutout against the Dodgers, only to give up six runs to the Rockies a week later. Then, King followed up his game against the Rockies with a quality start in Cincinnati. The box score could go any way in King’s two-start week against Miami and Kansas City.
  • Reynaldo Lopez’s ERA is 1.54. His WHIP currently stands at 1.07. Although these numbers are ridiculously low, his strikeout numbers are not as superb with just a respectable 8.5 K/9. Lopez is a safe start. He heavily benefits ratios in category leagues. Even so, his lack of strikeouts limits him. He’s slated to battle the Nationals next week.
