Fantasy Baseball Injury Updates: Evan Phillips, Blake Snell, Grayson Rodriguez, Max Scherzer

This is an exciting period of the season for this fantasy baseball injury updates article. Talking about injuries is always a downer, but it’s awesome when players come back for fantasy baseball managers. We have many big-name players right around the corner in their recovery, and it looks like we could have a completely different list of fantasy baseball injury stashes next week.

This week, we got rid of Walker Buehler, Justin Steele, Christian Yelich, Kyle Bradish, Josh Lowe, Paul Sewald and Cody Bellinger, and that’s all fantasy managers can hope for. With that in mind, let’s dive into this week’s fantasy baseball injury updates.

Fantasy Baseball Injury Updates (Week 7)

Evan Phillips (RP – LAD)

Evan Phillips is the closer I drafted most in season-long leagues. Seeing him land on the injured list (IL) this week was devastating. The good news is that it’s a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He’s only expected to miss the minimum 15 days. We expect Daniel Hudson to get the bulk of the saves in his absence, so look for Phillips to return in two weeks.

Blake Snell (SP – SF)

Blake Snell’s injury seemed like it might be a long-term issue, but he’s moving steadily through his rehab. The Cy Young winner had a bullpen session on Saturday and threw three innings of live batting practice on Tuesday. That’s a quick recovery from a Grade 2 adductor strain. He could make a rehab start as soon as this weekend.

Max Scherzer (SP – TEX)

Max Scherzer has missed the opening month of the season after offseason back surgery and is currently tending to a thumb issue. It’s just soreness. Texas expects Scherzer to start rehab games again when the swelling goes down. The hope is that he’ll be able to return this weekend or early next week. We’d expect one more rehab session after that as well. With that said, look for the former Cy Young winner to return by the end of May.

Grayson Rodriguez (SP – BAL)

Grayson Rodriguez was put on the IL on April 30 because of some shoulder soreness, but it looks like a maintenance move from Baltimore. The Orioles youngster resumed a throwing program this week. There’s some thought he could be back when he’s first eligible. That would be next week, but don’t be surprised to see Baltimore be cautious with their young ace.
