News & Notes:
The biggest news of the week is a change in the Mets bullpen following the struggles of Edwin Diaz. After blowing a lead in his third straight appearance, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Diaz’s role with the Mets was “fluid” last week. Diaz was able to pitch a clean seventh inning on Friday, giving him some of his confidence back. It is very possible he eventually works his way back into the closer role for the Mets.
After not allowing an earned run in his first 20 appearances of the season, Holmes allowed four runs on four hits over 2/3 of an inning on Monday to blow the save against the Mariners. He was able to quickly bounce back a few days later, recording a four-out save in the series finale against Seattle on Thursday.
