Dynasty Rookie Draft Pick Review

1.11 – Xavier Worthy (WR – KC)

The outcome everyone clamored for in their mocks all draft season became a reality on night one of the NFL Draft. The former Longhorn speedster was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Worthy now enters a receiving room where he will have to contend with Marquise Brown this year and Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce over at least the next two years for targets. Even with that being the case, getting tied to Patrick Mahomes isn’t too shabby. This isn’t another Skyy Moore situation, although I know people will have worries and make the lazy connection at times. The Worthy conversation begins at 1.05 in 1QB formats and 1.09 in Superflex.

2.11 – Blake Corum (RB – LAR)

I have my worries about Corum, but the Rams investing third-round draft capital in him was interesting. Corum’s yards after contact per attempt, breakaway percentage, and elusive ratings fell in each of his final three collegiate seasons (per PFF). That’s not exactly the trend line that you want to have entering the NFL, but the Rams’ third-round investment in the Michigan product is a decent vote of confidence that Corum can possibly get back to his 2021 form (24th in yards after contact per attempt per PFF). I doubt Corum is taking passing down snaps away from Kyren Williams, but he could help spell him on early downs and salt away the clock late in games. Corum is a high-end handcuff only right now.

3.11 – Bucky Irving (RB – TB)

Irving becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer with mildly surprising fourth-round draft capital, considering his meh-level athletic testing (2.22 RAS). Irving should face some resistance from Chase Edmonds to become the direct backup to the team’s workhorse in Rachaad White. If Irving can win the RB2 job, he should be on the handcuff radar. Last year, he ranked 17th in yards after contact per attempt and eighth in elusive rating (per PFF).

4.11 – Dylan Laube (RB – LV)

Laube was drafted in round six of the NFL Draft as the Raiders’ new RB4 on the depth chart and understudy to Ameer Abdullah as a passing-down complement to the ground game. Laube’s receiving chops have been well-documented. His tackle-breaking metrics are snooze-worthy at best, but with his receiving skills, he’s worth stashing on a taxi squad for at least a year.

5.11 – Isaiah Davis (RB – NYJ)

Davis arrives in the Big Apple via the fifth round of the NFL Draft. This wasn’t the landing spot you wanted if you believed in Davis’s talent. He’s the possible RB4 on the depth chart buried by one of the few true young bell cows in the NFL. Davis is now only a fifth-round rookie draft pick, waiver wire add, or taxi squad fodder. It’s possible that he could ascend to the RB2 spot on the depth chart, but that’s the best-case scenario currently.
