Top 10 Dynasty IDP Rookies

Dallas Turner (EDGE – MIN)

Dallas Turner fell further down the draft board than expected but found the perfect landing spot with the Minnesota Vikings. Turner got better each season at Alabama and ran a blazing-fast 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine while displaying his crazy athletic ability with a 9.48 relative athletic score (RAS). The former Alabama EDGE standout is 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds. He racked up 32.5 tackles for loss and 22.5 sacks during college.

Turner possesses an extremely high ceiling and will be a high-impact game-changer for a Vikings defense that will look for Turner to take over for Danielle Hunter as their top EDGE defender. He will have the luxury of playing opposite Jonathan Greenard on the other side. Also, he will play under defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who knows how to free up his EDGE defenders. The Vikings should be in many shootouts, allowing Flores to unleash Turner.

Jared Verse (EDGE – LAR)

Jared Verse is a relentless attacker with a clear path to play a pivotal role in the Rams’ defense. His speed and explosion scream disruptor on the edge. Playing opposite Byron Young, he will be freed up to wreck opposing offenses for the next decade.

Junior Colson (LB – LAC)

Junior Colson was another defender who found the perfect landing spot by going to the Los Angeles Chargers to play under his college coach Jim Harbaugh. Colson will start from Day 1 and has a legitimate opportunity to wear the green dot as a rookie. The former Michigan Wolverine possesses elite speed and is a true three-down linebacker who will quarterback the Chargers defense.

Laiatu Latu (EDGE – IND)

The first defensive player selected in the NFL Draft at pick 15, Laiatu Latu entered the draft with medical concerns. However, the Colts trusted their medicals on the EDGE prospect, a pass-rush technician with double-digit sack potential in Year 1. His longevity might seriously concern the Colts and IDP dynasty managers.

Edgerrin Cooper (LB – GB)

Edgerrin Cooper is a three-down linebacker who showcased his athletic ability at the NFL Combine with a 4.51-second 40-yard dash and a fantastic 1.54 10-yard split. His intensity and high floor will create a massive opportunity for Cooper to earn the LB2 opposite Quay Walker. An exciting development to his game last season was upgrading his blitzing repertoire. His relentless pursuit and closing speed will allow Cooper to produce stats for fantasy managers in every IDP stat category.

Chop Robinson (EDGE – MIA)

Chop Robinson is a pass-rush specialist who relies on a superior first step and lightning speed. At the combine, Robinson produced the second-fastest 40-yard time (4.48) among defensive linemen. His freaky athleticism should produce plenty of sacks, but he will be utilized in a limited situational pass-rushing role. Managers in IDP leagues must build on the potential impact of his sack production to offset the wait for his overall development.

Byron Murphy II (DET – SEA)

Byron Murphy was easily the top defensive tackle who possessed a high motor with a tantalizing upside. Murphy is a difference-maker in the middle of the line and will be the first-year starter on the Seahawks’ defensive line and in your IDP lineups.

Payton Wilson (LB – PIT)

Payton Wilson took home both the Chuck Bednarik and Dick Butkus Awards after recording 138 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and six sacks last season. Wilson is a football monster whose serious injury history scared many teams, although he was healthy enough to play the past two full seasons. His NFL Combine numbers were superb, and the Steelers selected the high-risk/reward linebacker in the third round. Look for the city of Pittsburgh and IDP managers to love the former North Carolina State linebacker.

Trevin Wallace (LB – CAR)

It’s hard not to love the upside of Trevin Wallace. He is an athletic freak who ran a 4.51 40-yard dash and recorded career-highs with 80 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks last season. Wallace will have a starting role from Day 1 and his upside should make him desirable for IDP managers.

Tyler Nubin (S – NYG)

Tyler Nubin was the top-ranked safety on Pro Football Focus’ (PFF) big board. Nubin produced 12 interceptions and over 50 tackles across his last three seasons in Minnesota. He arrives in New York with a spot to start immediately in the Giants’ defensive backfield. He’s an all-around safety who will replace Xavier McKinney. His ball skills will increase his IDP value for the next decade.
