Monday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Tyler Glasnow (LAD) vs WSH
Tyler Glasnow is the ace the Dodgers hoped they acquired via a trade in the offseason. According to FanGraphs, in four starts spanning 24.0 innings this season, Glasnow has a 2.25 ERA, 1.96 xERA, 2.98 SIERA, 0.75 WHIP, 7.8 BB%, 32.2 K%, 31.2 CSW%, 120 Stuff+, 102 Location+ and 104 Pitching+.
He should carve up Washington's unimposing lineup and receive plenty of run support from his juggernaut offense. Glasnow is comfortably the top pitcher in all game types on tonight's slate.
Sonny Gray (STL) at OAK
Sonny Gray was sharp in his season debut last week, spinning 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing only five hits and striking out five batters. He was limited to 64 pitches but should have a longer leash tonight. Still, Gray is unlikely to approach 100 pitches, which is the fly in the ointment for his DFS outlook.
Nevertheless, Gray has a mouthwatering matchup. The Athletics are 26th in wRC+ (80) against righties this season. Oakland is also tied for the third-highest strikeout rate (28.4 K%) against them. St. Louis is -168, and the game's total is 7.5 runs in a pitcher-friendly venue.
Ben Brown (CHC) at ARI
The Rangers lit up Ben Brown for six runs in only 1.2 innings in the youngster's season debut. The righty has settled into a groove in two subsequent appearances. Since Brown's nightmarish debut, he's had a 1.04 ERA, 2.71 SIERA, 0.92 WHIP, 6.5 BB%, 32.3 K%, 34.1 CSW%, 115 Stuff+, 101 Location+ and 105 Pitching+.
The Diamondbacks are a mid-pack offense against righties this year. So, the matchup isn't cushy. Regardless, Brown's salary is a bargain compared to how well he's pitched in his previous two turns, making him an appealing SP2 in GPPs at DK.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
Welcome to the big leagues, Mitchell Parker. In his debut in The Show, his assignment is the Dodgers. Yikes. The 24-year-old lefty pitched only 14.1 innings in Triple-A after recording a 4.20 ERA in 113.2 in Double-A in 2023. He's ill-equipped to tame LA's juggernaut offense.
- Home (T-Mobile Park)
- Game Total/Moneyline: 7.0 Runs/SEA -155
The Mariners are an appealing complement to the chalky Dodgers. First, they have bargain salaries. Second, they should be contrarian. The game's total isn't hitter-friendly, and the Mariners have struggled against righties this year. However, all their projected starters have been average (100 wRC+) or better against righties since 2021, including six with at least a 115 wRC+. Frankie Montas has pitched well this year, albeit overachieving his ERA estimators. It's not a perfect matchup, but again, that should make the Mariners contrarian in GPPs.
Core Studs
- Mookie Betts kills lefties and sits atop LA's juggernaut lineup. Since 2021, he's had a .395 OBP, .298 ISO and 168 wRC+ against southpaws.
- In 405 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, Teoscar Hernandez has smashed 29 homers with a .348 OBP, .315 ISO and 165 wRC+.
Value Plays/Punts
- Chris Taylor is cheap exposure to LA's high-octane offense. In 481 plate appearances against lefties since 2021, he's hit 18 homers with a .324 OBP, .206 ISO and 107 wRC+. Taylor can also steal bases, swiping 16 last season and one this year.
- In 493 plate appearances against righties since 2021, Luke Raley has hit 20 homers with a .321 OBP, .210 ISO and 115 wRC+.
- Michael Busch was outstanding in the minors but didn't have instant success at the dish for the Dodgers. He's found his footing in the majors with the Cubs. In 56 plate appearances this year, Busch has mashed five taters with a .393 OBP, .367 ISO and 184 wRC+.
Monday's Top 3 Underdog Fantasy and PrizePicks Player Props
Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
Frankie Montas: 5.5 Strikeouts Lower (Underdog Fantasy)/Less (PrizePicks)
Montas has pitched well this year. Nevertheless, his plate discipline numbers aren't impressive. He has a 25.3 CSW%, and his 9.7 SwStr% is below the league average (10.8 SwStr%). Montas has struck out four, five and four batters in three starts. He should fall under 5.5 strikeouts for the fourth consecutive start this year in tonight's matchup.
Spencer Arrighetti is making his second career big-league start tonight after lasting only 3.0 innings in his debut against the Royals last week. Kansas City crushed him for seven runs on seven hits, three walks and only three strikeouts. The 24-year-old righty has dreadful control, and Atlanta's talented lineup should give him fits tonight.
Mookie Betts: 10.5 Fantasy Points - Higher
Mookie Betts: 8.5 Fantasy Points - More
Betts was highlighted in the core studs section because he has a matchup with a debuting lefty and a track record of pummeling southpaws. He's also locked in this year. In 86 plate appearances in 2024, Betts has hit six homers and stolen three bases with a .477 OBP, .329 ISO and 210 wRC+. LA's stud leadoff hitter should pile up fantasy points tonight.
