Welcome to my weekly prospect report at FantasyPros. The goal of this column is to give you the most fantasy-relevant prospect information throughout the last week in one place. The format of this weekly prospect report will be by level and we will go through players in order of their placing on my latest Top 150 prospect rankings (click here to view).

I won’t be hitting every prospect every week but will focus on the most relevant players throughout the week. I will also follow up with other notable players who didn’t make my top 150 cut. This article will not focus on any AAAA-type players or veterans in the minors who have outlived their prospect status.

NOTE: Rookie status is determined by 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched at MLB level.

    • Notes: Langford is making great contact, barreling the ball and hitting it in the air. The last week was more or less a fluke as he’s doing all the right things.

• #4 Evan Carter (OF – TEX)

    • This Week: 5/23 | 3 XBH, 0 HR, 1 SB
    • Notes: Carter has a 166 wRC+ but we would like to see him hitting the ball harder with only an 85.5 average EV so far.

• #5 Jackson Chourio (OF – MIL)

    • Notes: A 23.1% barrel rate is unsustainable. Despite terrible plate skills thus far, his tools are making it work and he’s hitting the ball in the zone with a 90.9% Z-Contact rate.

    • Notes: Dominguez is on the injured list (IL) after getting Tommy John surgery late last season. He is on track for a return around June.

    • Notes: Marte was suspended for the first half of the season due to PEDs. He may need some time in the minors to ramp up even before the return. We will see how the Reds treat him as they might send him down as a punishment of sorts.

    • Notes: Keith is hitting the ball decently hard, though he has more power in that tank and maximizing by hitting line drives (38.5% rate so far). The contact rate and plate skills all look good but he has a tough home park and it’s cold right now… I expect him to get better as the weather warms up.

• #28 Jackson Merrill (SS, OF – SD)

    • Notes: Cowser needs more opportunity if he’s going to be on the big league squad. Between the lackluster starts of Austin Hays and Ryan O’Hearn, hopefully, it’s coming soon.

• #50 Ceddanne Rafaela (SS, OF – BOS)

    • Notes: Rafaela’s elite defense will keep him in the lineup when most guys would be sitting. We might see him lose some opportunity to Wilyer Abreu if he continues to struggle. The hit tool isn’t the problem, it’s the terrible plate skills, which is why I emphasize this with prospects and in my fScores.

• #54 Ronny Mauricio (2B, SS – NYM)

    • Notes: Mauricio tore his ACL in the Dominican Winter League and won’t be back until August, at the earliest.

• #61 Victor Scott II (OF – STL)

    • This Week: 3/25 | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: There’s a chance Scott goes down when Lars Nootbaar comes back on Monday. However, the defense has been good enough to earn him more reps, similar to Rafaela. He is hitting the ball hard but has not been barreling the ball. He’s also been hitting the ball in the air too much for someone whose game is based on speed. The hit tool and plate skills all look good. He has a .188 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), so there is some bad luck in play for a guy who should run closer to a .350 BABIP.

• #69 Curtis Mead (2B, 3B – TB)

    • Notes: Mead is not hitting the ball hard or barreling the ball, but he’s a great contact hitter. The plate skills are not there as he has a 48.8% chase rate, which means he could be pressing to make things happen and get more ABs.

• #72 Graham Pauley (3B, OF – SD) 

• • • Season: .154/.154/.385 | 0 BB% / 46.2 K%| 1 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 2/13 | 1 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Pauley’s hitting the ball hard but has no barrels (not even on the homer). The contact skills are below average and so are the plate skills. He’s better than what he’s done, but unless the contact skills improve or he makes barrels, we are looking at a 2023 Brett Baty-like season.

• #129 Ivan Herrera (C – STL)

    • Notes: Herrera might be the best backup catcher in baseball and should get a decent amount of playing time this year when Wilson Contreras is in at DH. He’s hitting the cover off the ball so far this season with a 26.7% barrel rate and 96.1 average EV.

• #130 Justin Foscue (2B – TEX)

    • Notes: Foscue was just promoted after the Josh Jung injury, but with Jared Walsh playing so well and Ezequiel Duran covering 3B, I’m not sure how much playing time he will get. He’s likely slotted just to replace Duran as the super UTIL guy.

    • Notes: Meyer didn’t have the best start against the Angels but St. Louis is next. I’m starting him against the struggling Cardinals lineup. He should improve the K rate and lower the walk rate based on his track record.

• #41 Kyle Harrison (SP – SF)

    • This Week: 5 IP | 4.3 K-BB%, 10.3% SwStr% | 5.24 SIERA
    • Notes: Harrison started against the Padres and the Dodgers, so not the easiest first two starts of the season. Being in the NL West, he better get used to it. I wouldn’t put too much into this week’s start against the Dodgers — they’re going to blow guys up all year.

• #87 Jared Jones (SP – PIT)

    • This Week: 6 IP | 28 K-BB%, 22.5% SwStr% | 2.24 SIERA
    • Notes: Jared Jones has been one of the 5-10 most impressive starters in baseball this season. Acquire him if you can still get him relatively cheap. Make trade offers in keeper and dynasty leagues. If I were re-doing the rankings today, he would be an easy top-40 pitcher ahead of Meyer, maybe Andrew Painter.

• #95 Ben Brown (SP, RP – CHC)

    • Notes: Brown came up to replace the injured Justin Steele and may take a rotation spot until Jameson Taillon returns, or he might just be a piggyback. I like Brown decently enough, hence my top-100 ranking.

• #101 Clayton Beeter (SP, RP – NYY)

    • This Week (in AAA): 3 1/3 IP | 0 K-BB%, 15.8% SwStr%
    • Notes: Beeter pitched a game out of the pen but they moved him back down to AAA to start, which is smart in the event they run into injuries. Though Beeter’s best role in the future might be as a high-leverage reliever where his stuff plays up against his poor control.

• #116 Gavin Stone (SP – LAD)

    • Notes: Stone looked insane against the Cardinals in his first start. I am interested to see how his next outing goes. Stone is a guy I had previously as a top-60-ish starter. Now that he seems back into his 2022 form, he would bounce back up that way if I was re-ranking.

• #138 Landen Roupp (RP – SF)

    • This Week: 4 IP | 18.8 K-BB%, 11.1% SwStr% | 3.26 SIERA
    • Notes: I’ve been a big fan of Roupp as a reliever and mentioned in my prospect article he reminds me of a lesser Corbin Burnes in reliever form. He’s a great add for deep leagues or points leagues. I’d take him over Beeter and Brown if re-ranking.

• #139 DL Hall (SP – SF)

• • • Season: 9 1/3 IP | 4.4 K-BB%, 6.1% SwStr% | 5.14 SIERA
    • This Week: 5 1/3 IP | 12 K-BB%, 6.7% SwStr% | 4.11 SIERA
    • Notes: Hall looked rough in his first start against the underrated Mets but course-corrected his second time out vs. the Mariners, despite a horrendous .444 BABIP. He’s had some bad luck but there is no doubt the stuff is down as a starter vs. when he was in relief last year. I’m taking him over the relievers if re-ranking, but sticking with Stone over Hall.

AAA HITTERS

• #2 Junior Caminero (3B – TB)

    • Notes: Caminero hit the seven-day minor league IL with quad tightness. There is no date on his return.

    • Notes: Holliday should be in the majors. We will see him as soon as the Orioles get that extra year of eligibility.

    • Notes: Wood is showing great discipline and has been hitting the ball hard (mostly on the ground) so far this young season. Wood only played in two games this week, so I’m assuming he was a little dinged.

    • Notes: Lawlar is on the IL for at least two months after undergoing thumb surgery.

• #14 Pete Crow-Armstrong (OF – CHC)

    • Notes: Crow-Armstrong will have to show better plate discipline before getting called up but he’s been electric when it comes to making things happen. He should get the call within the next couple of months.

    • Notes: Montgomery is off to a slow start. With his health track record, it might be more important to have health and build into consistency than to press too hard for a big league spot.

    • Notes: Kjerstad is a good enough hitter he would be starting on almost every team in the majors, just not the Orioles. He’s making a case for himself to be starting at 1B over O’Hearn with an insane beginning of the season.

    • Notes: Quero has been out since after his first AB with a shoulder injury. We are still waiting for more information on the timeline and severity of the injury.

    • Notes: Clase could be fighting for a late-season call-up. He has zero stolen bases because you need to get on base first to steal bags.

    • Notes: Mayo is off to a strong start XBH-wise, however, the plate skills need to look better if he’s going to get a call-up, especially considering he might be battling Kjerstad for a roster spot. I’ve always been down on Mayo because the hit tool is slightly below average and the plate skills are below average. The power is definitely there, though.

• #65 Owen Caissie (OF – CHC)

    • Notes: Gilbert looks like he’s trying too hard and needs to settle into AAA. He’s probably not looking at a call-up until later in the season.

    • Notes: Acuna could potentially beat Drew Gilbert up thanks to the Mauricio injury but there’s a good chance the Mets hold many of these guys down in the minors until September. Acuna is overrated a bit due to the name and is being bumped up above his level.

• #80 Jordan Beck (OF – COL) 

• • • Season: .320/.428/.720 | 18.8 BB% / 34.4 K%| 5 XBH, 2 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 6/18 | 4 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Beck hit a couple of monster home runs. It’s the PCL, so we have to take some power with a grain of salt, but the fact he’s in AAA, while Sterling Thompson and Yanquiel Fernandez aren’t is a good sign for him in the OF pecking order in Colorado.

• #82 Joey Loperfido (2B, OF – HOU)

    • Notes: Loperfido barely missed the cut with the Astros, to good ole Jon Singleton, but I would expect him up in the majors if there are any OF injuries. The power he is showing is insane.

    • Notes: Jung looks a lot like Nolan Gorman working his way up. He will have to show better plate skills to come up with Justyn Henry-Malloy not even getting the call yet. He’s struggling a bit to start the season.

• #91 Thomas Saggese (2B, 3B – STL)

    • Notes: The 2023 AA hitting champ is off to a slow start this week at AAA after a strong spring training. He did hit a homer on Sunday, though (not shown above). He might be turning a corner on the cold streak.

• #93 Justyn Henry-Malloy (3B, OF – DET)

    • Notes: Justyn Henry-Malloy is looking to transfer full-time to a corner OF spot and has shown the plate skills for the majors. He needs to show good enough defense to get the call.

• #105 Connor Norby (2B – BAL)

    • Notes: The Orioles’ minor league squad is ridiculous between Kjerstad, Mayo and Norby. Who is going to make it up into a starting role? Who is destined for the bench? Who is trade bait? Norby is the Michael Busch of the Orioles.

• #109 Andy Pages (OF – LAD) 

• • • Season: .219/.342/.313 | 10.5 BB% / 15.8 K%| 2 XBH, 0 HR, 2 SB
    • This Week: 6/25 | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 2 SB
    • Notes: Pages had a strong spring and is looking to show he’s healthy and ready to rip. In the event of a Dodgers injury he could get the call, even before Miguel Vargas.

• #112 Marco Luciano (SS – SF)

• • • Season: .407/.556/.481 | 25 BB% / 27.8 K%| 2 XBH, 0 HR, 1 SB
    • This Week: 11/24 | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 1 SB
    • Notes: Luciano was sent down in a bit of a shocker but it might be the best long-term move for his development if he can improve his plate skills at AAA. He’s looking good so far at AAA.

• #114 Tyler Soderstrom (C, 1B – OAK) 

• • • Season: .148/.233/.519 | 6.7 BB% / 26.7 K%| 4 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 4/24 | 4 XBH, 1 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Soderstrom has a good amount of work to do in the minors after being promoted a year too early in 2023. I might drop him out of my top 150 in the next rankings.

• #146 Ryan Bliss (MI – SEA)

• • • Season: .160/.333/.200 | 18.2 BB% / 30.3 K%| 1 XBH, 0 HR, 4 SB
    • This Week: 3/18 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 3 SB
    • Notes: Bliss had a very strong year in the minors in 2023 but it may have been a bit luck-oriented. We will see if the hit tool is real as this minor league season progresses.

• #147 Matt Mervis (1B – CHC) 

• • • Season: .261/.387/.391 | 19.4 BB% / 19.4 K%| 3 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 5/16 | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Mervis is probably blocked on the Cubs roster but he might be a nice throw-in on a trade and would probably be starting for the Nationals or Athletics.

• #148 Justice Bigbie (1B, OF – DET) 

• • • Season: .143/.226/.179 | 9.7 BB% / 29 K%| 1 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 3/22 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Bigbie is another guy with a strong 2023 out of nowhere who we will learn if it’s real or not. The issue is where would he play in Detroit?

• Kyle Stowers (OF – BAL) 

• • • Season: .333/.381/.872 | 2.4 BB% / 14.3 K%| 9 XBH, 6 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 9/30 | 8 XBH, 5 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: Stowers had a killer spring and is off to a hot start in AAA. Just one more Orioles prospect to block up the depth chart.

• Spencer Horwitz (CI – TOR) 

• • • Season: .350/.536/.550 | 28.6 BB% / 14.3 K%| 2 XBH, 1 HR, 2 SB
    • This Week: 9/30 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 2 SB
    • Notes: Horwitz is an older guy but should be in the majors and is competing against Damiano Palmegiani for that next corner-hitting roster spot.

• Jose Fermin (MI – STL)

• • • Season: .429/.520/.857 | 16 BB% / 4 K%| 5 XBH, 2 HR, 2 SB
    • This Week: 5/13 | 1 XBH, 0 HR, 2 SB
    • Notes: Fermin had a strong spring and is taking it into AAA. He looks like a classic, legit late-blooming super UTIL guy the Cardinals are experts in developing.

• Heliot Ramos (OF – SF) 

• • • Season: .290/.371/.645 | 5.7 BB% / 22.9 K%| 4 XBH, 3 HR, 0 SB
    • This Week: 9/27 | 3 XBH, 3 HR, 0 SB
    • Notes: We have been here before with Ramos. He might be a AAAA player or a guy who can’t break out due to his skills in San Fran. He is again performing in the minors.

• Blake Dunn (OF – CIN) 

• • • Season: .242/.324/.333 | 5.7 BB% / 22.9 K%| 2 XBH, 0 HR, 3 SB
    • This Week: 7/25 | 2 XBH, 0 HR, 3 SB
    • Notes: Dunn has moved quickly because he’s older but he also served in the military. He could make an impact on the Reds this season.

Note: Miguel Vargas is raking but he is no longer prospect eligible.

AAA PITCHERS

    • Notes: Dominant stuff as Skenes seems to be in extended spring, ramping up for his debut in a month or so.

    • Notes: Tiedemann was roughed up a little in his first go-around this season. I’m not concerned.
