Fantasy Baseball Injury Updates

Pitcher Injury Updates

Gerrit Cole (elbow) is expected to begin playing catch early next week, according to Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone. (Source: Bryan Hoch on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Cole was shut down in spring training due to an elbow injury. The veteran is expected to start a ramp-up process in which he will be monitored for any setbacks that could lead to Tommy John surgery. Fantasy managers should still expect Cole to be out until late May after being played on the 60-day IL to begin the season.

Sonny Gray (hamstring) will be activated from the 15-day IL and start Tuesday for the Cardinals, according to manager Oliver Marmol. (Source: John Denton on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Gray was originally slated to make a minor-league rehab appearance in Triple-A but has recovered from his hamstring injury enough to be activated to make his season debut. Fantasy managers should expect Gray to be on a limited pitch count Tuesday.

The Brewers have placed Jakob Junis on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement. (Source: Brewers on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Junis stated he felt an issue with his shoulder after his last start. The team has recalled Aaron Ashby to take Junis’ spot on the roster.

Spencer Strider underwent an MRI Saturday that revealed damage to his UCL. (Source: Braves on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Strider is set to be further evaluated, but no date has been determined yet. Fantasy managers should expect Strider to definitely miss some time and potentially the rest of the season if he requires Tommy John surgery.

Michael Lorenzen said he is ready to join the Rangers starting rotation. (Source: Jeff Wilson on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Lorenzen said that all went well in his rehab start on Thursday. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session early next week at which point the team will determine his next outing.

Nick Lodolo is scheduled to make his final rehab start on Sunday with Triple-A Louisville. (Source: Charlie Goldsmith on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Lodolo is expected to make his season debut for the Reds on Friday against the White Sox. He’ll look to deliver another strong rehab outing after dominating in his first one.

Jordan Romano is hoping to start a rehab assignment soon. (Source: Shi Davidi on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Romano was able to throw a bullpen session on Thursday without any issues. He is expected to throw live batting practice soon. If all goes well, he is expected to begin a rehab assignment.

Hitter Injury Updates

J.D. Martinez is expected to sit out of baseball activities for the next two days due to “overall body soreness.” (Source: Tim Healey on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Martinez was expected to join the Mets in Atlanta. The 35-year-old will rejoin Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday and be worked into the lineup. Fantasy managers should expect more clarity in his status after he is able to return to game action in Single-A.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Joey Votto is still doing defensive work but his ankle is “getting better.” (Source: Shi Davidi on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Votto has been sidelined since his first appearance in Spring Training when he stepped on a bat. He remains without a timetable to return.
