News & Notes

We are seeing some closer situations where it seems to be somewhat of a 1A/1B situation, most notably in the Orioles (Craig Kimbrel/Yennier Cano) and Pirates (David Bednar/Aroldis Chapman) bullpens.

The Mariners gave Ryne Stanek a save chance after Andres Munoz pitched in the eighth inning. When Matt Brash and Gregory Santos are healthy, it could become more of a committee with four relievers who are capable of closing out games.

Ryan Helsley’s velocity was up in his last appearance. He is looking to bounce back and get into his All-Star form this year for the Cardinals. He has tossed three straight scoreless innings without walking anyone.

Several top closers opened the season on the Injured List (IL). This chart will certainly change a lot over the first month of the season.
