NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (3/5)

The NHL rolls out a nine-game slate tonight, which gives us plenty of options to get some skin in the game. I’m heading the DFS route tonight, where I’ve compiled this nine-man roster at DraftKings. This lineup is playable in the classic $50,000 salary format, and I’ve also listed each player’s price at FanDuel. Here’s who I’m expecting to have a big night on the ice.

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

The lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Evgeni Malkin (PIT) ($5,400 DK, $6,200 FD)

I have a pair of Penguins in my lineup tonight as they attempt to snap a three-game slide against the Blue Jackets. I’ll lock in Evgeni Malkin, who’s third on the team in both scoring (17G, 29A) and SOG (151). Geno notched the only goal in a 6-1 defeat against the Oilers, giving him five points (1G, 4A) in his last seven games. This will be a favorable matchup against a Columbus defense that’s 29th overall (3.36 GAA).

C2: Logan Cooley (ARI) ($3,300 DK, $4,000 FD)

We have a couple of marquee rookies squaring off in the desert tonight as Connor Bedard‘s Hawks take on Logan Cooley’s Coyotes. Cooley hasn’t been nearly as impressive as Bedard, but he’s still putting up a respectable rookie campaign with 29 points (10G, 19A). I think he makes a great value play since the Blackhawks are 30th defensively, allowing 3.37 goals per game.

W1: Filip Forsberg (NSH) ($7,800 DK, $9,000 FD)

The Predators are riding an eight-game win streak, and Filip Forsberg has amassed nine points (4G, 5A) over the streak. He still leads the team with 62 points (29G, 33A), and he’s by far the leader in SOG (248). Forsberg and his Preds will welcome in a Habs squad that’s 28th in overall defense (3.33 GAA) and 30th on the PK (74.16%). The winger could have a nuclear night at home as Nashville goes for its ninth straight victory.

W2: Jason Robertson (DAL) ($6,500 DK, $7,400 FD)

Speaking of fading lowly defenses, I’ll take this opportunity to bet against the Sharks. They’re 32nd in overall defense (3.63 GAA) and 29th on the PK (74.49%). Let’s play Jason Robertson, who leads the team in both scoring (21G, 39A) and SOG (179). The winger also leads Dallas’ forwards in TOI/G (18:24), and he’s the trigger man on the top power play, which should find success tonight.

W3: Evan Rodrigues (FLA) ($3,600 DK, $4,400 FD)

The Panthers are 15-2-0 in their last 17 games, and they’ll head to New Jersey tonight to take on the Devils. Considering New Jersey’s defense is awful, allowing 3.21 goals per game (26th), I think Evan Rodrigues makes a great depth option tonight. He’s constantly ripping the puck on net, ranking fifth on the team in SOG (146). Essentially, since he has dropped to the third line, he’s the trigger man alongside centerman Anton Lundell. Let’s take a flier on Rodrigues to collect his third point in three games (1G, 1A).

D1: Kris Letang (PIT) ($5,000 DK, $5,800 FD)

The other Penguin I have tonight is Kris Letang. Rather than splurge on Erik Karlsson ($5,400), I’ll save a few bucks since the two are nearly identical in terms of point production. Karlsson has 43 points (8G, 35A) while Letang has 37 points (7G, 30 A). Letang’s averaging 24:40 TOI/G (1st) and he’s also sixth on the roster in SOG (124). Look for him to have his hand in a goal tonight against this lowly Blue Jackets defense.

D2: Gustav Forsling (FLA) ($4,000 DK, $5,000 FD)

My second D-man tonight is Gustav Forsling. He snapped a three-game scoreless streak last time out, racking up a pair of assists in a 4-2 win over the Rangers. He’s up to 30 points (9G, 21A) on the year, which leads all Florida defensemen. That’s pretty impressive considering this stacked defensive core has knocked Forsling off the power-play unit. However, he’s still on the top pairing, logging 21:46 TOI/G (2nd). If Forsling can pick up a couple of blocked shots and an assist, it’d be a success at this price.

G: Connor Hellebuyck (WPG) ($8,000 DK, $8,600 FD)

I’m riding with Connor Hellebuyck in net tonight. The first-place Jets host the Kraken, who are just 28th in terms of offense (2.7 GPG) this year. Meanwhile, Hellebuyck is putting up a Vezina-worthy season, sitting at 29-12-3 (4th-most wins) with a 2.25 GAA (2nd) and .924 SV% (T-1st). This guy, per usual, is having a monster season.

UTIL: Brock Boeser (VAN) ($6,400 DK, $7,700 FD)

I’ll round out my lineup with Brock Boeser as my util-man. The winger leads the Canucks in goals scored (35) and he’s fourth on the team in scoring with 62 points (27A). Boeser has been hot recently, racking up four goals in his last four games. Vancouver has a big divisional clash against Los Angeles, who just beat them 5-1 last week. I think it’ll be a different story as the matchup shifts back to Vancouver, where the Canucks are 20-6-3 at home. Look for Boeser to get in on the scoring action tonight at home.
