NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (3/19)

NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (3/19)

It’s a huge Tuesday in sports as the NCAA tournament gets underway with the First Four. However, the NHL rolls out a massive 13-game slate, so there’s still plenty of action on the ice.

I’m heading the DFS route, where I’ve locked in this nine-game roster over at DraftKings. This lineup fits their classic $50,000 salary format, and I’ve also listed each player’s price for FanDuel’s $55,000 salary equivalent.

Here’s who I think will have a big night in the NHL tonight!

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

The lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Pavel Zacha (BOS) | $4,700 DK, $5,900 FD

I played Pavel Zacha in my lineup on Saturday, and the centerman added an assist in the 6-5 victory over the Flyers. The 26-year-old is on fire right now, picking up 10 points (5G, 5A) over his last seven games. Four of those points (2G, 2A) have come on the power play, and the B’s man-advantage unit will have a favorable matchup against a Senators club that’s 30th in both overall defense (3.39 GAA) and penalty killing (73.47%).

C2: Pierre-Luc Dubois (LA) | $3,900 DK, $4,500 FD

The Kings just faced the Blackhawks on Friday, and they spanked them 5-0 in Chicago. Pierre-Luc Dubois went for a goal and an assist in the easy victory. He’s up to 31 points (15G, 16A) this season, which is serviceable for a third-line center. I expect Dubois to turn in another solid night against this Chicago defense that’s 29th overall (3.35 GAA).

W1: Juraj Slafkovsky (MTL) | $4,500 DK, $5,300 FD

I have a couple of players in tonight’s Canadiens vs. Oilers game, and Juraj Slafkovsky is first up. The former first-overall pick has been playing well recently, collecting five points (1G, 4A) over his last four games. The winger is fourth on the team in scoring (14G, 22A) and sixth in SOG (112). The Habs take on an Oilers side that hasn’t been overpowering defensively, allowing 2.4 goals per game over their last five contests. Let’s take a flier on Slafkovsky tonight.

W2: Warren Foegele (EDM) | $4,300 DK, $5,500 FD

The other winger I have in the Habs vs. Oilers game is Warren Foegele. The second-liner has done his job this season, adding some scoring depth to an Edmonton squad that’s typically top-heavy. He’s seventh on Edmonton’s roster in scoring (16G, 19A) and sixth in SOG (156). Foegele has been hot recently, adding four points (3G, 1A) in his last four games. This will be a solid matchup against a Montreal side that’s 27th overall defensively (3.27 GAA) and has allowed the fourth-most high-danger shots (159) during 5-on-5 play.

W3: Reilly Smith (PIT) | $4,000 DK, $4,700 FD

The Penguins’ offense has been ugly this season, but they just exploded for six goals in a 6-3 victory over the Red Wings on Sunday. Reilly Smith added a couple of points (1G, 1A) in the win, giving him four points (1G, 3A) over his last three contests. The veteran winger makes a solid depth option tonight against the Devils’ 24th-ranked defense (3.12 GAA). They’ve also allowed the 12th-most high-danger shots against (147) during 5-on-5 play. Smith has the hot hand, so I’ll take him to light the lamp again tonight.

D1: Roman Josi (NSH) | $7,900 DK, $8,100 FD

I was forced to play a lot of value options above since I splurged on Roman Josi. The upper-echelon defenseman is putting together another dynamite season, amassing 67 points (17G, 50A) over 68 games. The Preds are currently on a 12-0-2 run, and Josi has contributed 18 points (6G ,12A) over the 14-game sample size. Nashville hosts San Jose tonight, and they’re dead last in overall defense (3.70) and 29th on the PK (74.18%).

D2: Victor Hedman (TAM) | $6,200 DK, $7,500 FD

When speaking of teams that are heating up, I’d be remiss not to bring up the Lightning. They’ve won three straight games, out-scoring the opposition 18-6 over the three-game run. Victor Hedman has contributed to a third (2G, 4A) of those goals, and he’s up to seven points (2G, 5A) over his last four games. Overall, the D-man is third on the team in scoring (12G, 55A) while playing a team-leading 24:47 per night. Look for Hedman to have another solid night in what could be a high-scoring contest against the Golden Knights.

G: Cam Talbot (LA)/David Rittich (LA) | $8,400 DK, $8,000 FD

I’m riding with whoever gets the nod tonight for the Kings. They’ll host the Blackhawks, who bring in the second-worst offense in the league, scoring only 2.2 goals per game. Cam Talbot just faced Chicago on Friday and blanked them in a 5-0 win in the Windy City. He made all 28 saves en route to his third shutout of the season. The Blackhawks also have the 28th-ranked power play (15.94%), so Los Angeles’ netminder should be set for another big night.

UTIL: Robert Thomas (STL) | $6,100 DK, $6,700 FD

Let’s round out our lineup with St. Louis’ Robert Thomas. The All-Star is putting together a big season, leading the Blues in scoring with 73 points (23G, 50A). The Blues have won four straight games and Thomas has added four points (3G, 1A) over the four-game sample size. St. Louis takes on Colorado tonight, and Thomas has added six points (2G, 4A) in three games against the Avalanche this year!
