The Aaron Rodgers experiment did not get off to a great start in New York (New Jersey) in 2023. Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into his Jets tenure last season, and that was pretty much a wrap for their season. This offseason, the Jets have been retooling in hopes of building a potent contender around a healthy Rodgers. Their latest move? Signing the recently released WR Mike Williams to a one-year deal.
Let’s examine the immediate implications and fantasy impact of Williams agreeing to terms with the Jets.

Mike Williams Signs With New York Jets
Mike Williams was signed to a one-year deal worth $15 million by Gang Green, but he’s going to be 30 years old coming off a Week 3 torn ACL. It’s another band-aid fix that shouldn’t dramatically alter the Jets’ draft plans on a WR.
For what it’s worth, Big Mike was productive before he got hurt. Ranked as WR15 overall and WR17 in points per game. But it’s the same story every year with Williams. WR20 in points per game in 2022, but missed four games. At this point, it seems Williams will never fully put together a truly epic WR1 season that he has teased every year since 2018. He’s effective enough when healthy to post massive weeks that we know will not endure the length of the season.
Williams can at least slide in as the immediate No. 2 behind Garrett Wilson.

Williams’ addition was a must so the Jets can shift focus back to the OL in the draft. They also no longer have to trot out Jason Brownlee, Xavier Gipson and Charles Irvin as potential No. 2 WRs or No. 3 WRs in an Aaron Rodgers-led offense.
Williams’ addition might mark the end of Allen Lazard, who has been rumored to be on the trade block.
