Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo says Paul Sewald has a grade 2 left oblique strain and will miss some time. (Source: Theo Mackie on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Lovullo added that Sewald is expected to miss weeks, not days. He’ll likely open the season on the injured list as a result. Kevin Ginkel could open up the season as the Diamondbacks closer in his absence.

Justin Verlander is scheduled to throw two innings of live batting practice on Tuesday at Minute Maid Park. (Source: Matt Kawahara on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Astros manager Joe Espada added that if all goes well, Verlander could be ready to start a rehab assignment. Barring any setbacks, the veteran shouldn’t miss too much time early in the season.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Jameson Taillon is scheduled to throw one inning of live batting practice on Monday. (Source: Maddie Lee on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Counsell added that Taillon will throw live BP again on Friday. He’ll pitch in a minor league game next if that goes well.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said, “It’s reasonable to say” that Erik Swanson will start the season on the injured list. (Source: Shi Davidi on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The same goes for Jordan Romano. They are both playing catch on Monday and looking to throw a bullpen session next week. Yimi Garcia could open the season as the Blue Jays closer if both Romano and Swanson are placed on the injured list.

Gregory Santos is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday. (Source: Ryan Divish on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: If the MRI is clean, Santos is expected to resume his throwing program. At that point, he could make his debut in the bullpen for the Mariners early in the season.

Hitters

Reds manager David Bell told reporters the timeline for TJ Friedl is expected to be six-to-eight weeks. (Source: Charlie Goldsmith on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Bell added it may be closer to six weeks. “Quicker than we thought,” Bell said. Friedl is able to move the wrist around a bit now. He’ll target a return at some point in May.

Randal Grichuk will open the season on the injured list. (Source: Theo Mackie om Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Grichuk has been unable to fully recover from an ankle injury this offseason. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Grichuk Grichuk would be ready to DH but that “just having a DH and not giving somebody a chance to play on the other side of the ball would not be fair to him or the team.”

Garrett Mitchell will start the season on the injured list. (Source: Curt Hogg on Twitter)

Bryan Reynolds has been sidelined the past three days due to minor mid-back discomfort, but he is expected to be good to go for Opening Day. (Source: Jason Mackey on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The Pirates are seemingly being cautious with Reynolds. He is expected to play on Thursday when the Pirates open the season in Miami.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said DJ LeMahieu will open the season on the injured list. (Source: Bryan Hoch on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: LeMahieu was considered a long shot to be ready for the start of the season. He hasn’t been able to progress as quickly as the Yankees had hoped from a bone bruise in his right foot. It shouldn’t be a long stint for LeMahieu on the IL.
