5 Dynasty Fantasy Football Trade Targets: Wide Receivers (2024)

It’s the NFL offseason, but for dynasty, we can never take a day off if we want an edge against our opponents. During the offseason, the best fantasy football managers search their leagues for key opportunities to build their teams into the elite dynasty they dream of at their start-up draft.

Today, I will help you identify the best target acquisitions at the wide receiver position. These players range from studs to lesser-depth pieces that can help you round out your team into the contender everyone fears to face. Let’s get started.

Dynasty WR Trade Targets

Brandon Aiyuk (WR – SF)

Whenever a player is dealing with turmoil in their organization, you must do a “health check” on their dynasty manager. Panic mode sets in quickly for some managers and we can take advantage of this emotion. For the record, we believe Brandon Aiyuk will stay with the San Francisco 49ers. If he does, he sticks on an elite offense. However, if he is traded, this is where Aiyuk’s value can either skyrocket or plummet.

Aiyuk has been linked to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Pittsburgh Steelers this NFL offseason. His best value would come from the Jaguars, where his main competition would be an inconsistent Gabe Davis. Regardless of where Aiyuk lands, he is coming off a career-high aDOT (average depth of target) that showed he can be a deep vertical X receiver for any team. Most teams would cherish a 6-foot-0, 200-pound WR who is a fluid route runner, so you should do your best to target him.

Rashee Rice (WR – KC)

I hear you saying, “Joe, he had a great season. No one is going to trade him.” You would be half right in this sentiment; he had a great season. However, everyone is available in dynasty for the right offer. Rice, albeit, had a great year, he now has company in the Chiefs wide receiver room. Long gone are the days of competing for targets with Marquez Valdes-Scantling; instead, the Kansas City Chiefs spent their offseason making sure Travis Kelce returned and signing Marquise Brown.

The Chiefs offense will no longer hyper-target the rookie and, therefore, once again, the Rice manager may be in panic mode. Here is where you need to use the tools within your sales toolkit and start the pitch to get the rookie. You may need to talk up his “peak” and his decrease in targets that may come, even though you know, the numbers won’t drop significantly enough to matter.

The reason you want Rashee Rice is simple. He already has a connection with Patrick Mahomes. That alone is worth its weight in gold. Although the new heat (Marquise Brown) and the old heat (Travis Kelce) are in town, Rashee Rice became the chain-moving wide receiver Patrick Mahomes trusted down the stretch. Your team can always benefit from someone reliable and stands at 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, bringing a dominant presence to their game.

Diontae Johnson (WR – CAR)

Diontae Johnson is a simple dynasty target for being a volume king. He has always been a target monster in the NFL. Now, he heads to Carolina, where their wide receiver room comprises players who could not cause separation within their routes. That skill is a specialty for Johnston. He will also benefit from the Carolina Panthers having to throw because they are trailing most of the time. Hopefully, new Panthers coach Dave Canales can help Bryce Young like he did Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith before him.

You will want to hop on this Diontae Johnson train while most people envision last year’s Panthers offense. Once you do, your team will have a higher ceiling and floor for targets obtained weekly.

Quentin Johnston (WR – LAC)

A rookie having a bad first season is usually cause for concern. However, this may be the exception due to the change in L.A. this season. The Chargers have moved on from their entire weapons core in Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, Gerald Everett and Mike Williams. This change leaves Quentin Johnston to soak up the majority of those targets.

The beauty of this is most managers are assuming a wide receiver to be drafted by the Chargers early in the first round. This draft pick will diminish their previous first-round wide receiver’s capital. Whenever you have a chance at grabbing a 6-foot-4, 215-pound wide receiver who can be the alpha wide receiver for Justin Herbert, you must do it. Especially when their price has taken such a hit throughout one season. Run and make that trade.

Jameson Williams (WR – DET)

Here is another first-round capital wide receiver being forgotten by the dynasty community. Jameson Williams delivers on game-changing speed and is tall enough to help you “Moss” an opponent, yet people forget him because he has barely played. He entered the NFL with an injury and a betting scandal.

These circumstances limited Williams to only 78 snaps. Within those 78 snaps, however, he secured one (would have been two if not for flags) long touchdown grabs. He has game-changing qualities that can’t be taught and are not easy to trade for. While his value is depressed, let’s target him to build our wide receiver room into the fiercest in our league.

Dynasty football is a beautiful entity due to the wheeling and dealing that exists year-round. Not every trade needs to be a home run shot for players such as Justin Jefferson or Josh Allen. However, some players can build the correct depth to help with injuries and bye weeks. Other trades could be moving off of a stud, such as Justin Jefferson last year, knowing his quarterback room will change soon. Dynasty is all about thinking not in the present alone but in the future, with the present not too far behind. These players will help you elevate your team and change your team from a pretender to a contender.
