While there are still eyes on the NFL, dynasty managers should continue to work on trades to make their team better. Once the Super Bowl is over, a lot of leagues go dormant, so you might be better off making a trade now while you still can. Here are some players I’m trading for and trading away as we gear up for the big game in Las Vegas on February 11.
Dynasty Trades to Make Ahead of the Super Bowl (2024 Fantasy Football)
Trade For These Players
Goff finished as QB7 on the season with 289.1 fantasy points, just ahead of top dynasty quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He’s ranked as the dynasty QB15 according to the latest Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR). This kind of value difference is perfect to exploit before people catch on.
The Lions had an amazing season and luckily they’re keeping their offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to run it back next year. Goff should see a big benefit from the consistency in the offense and should be a terrific QB1 option once the 2024 season starts.
The Steelers are staring at a two-headed monster at running back for 2024, but it’s pretty clear that Warren is the 1A to Najee Harris‘ 1B. The torch has been passed. With former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith now moving to Pittsburgh, a lot of Warren managers might be panicking due to Smith’s terrible usage of Bijan Robinson in Atlanta.
This is the perfect time to strike and see if you can add a stud like Warren for cheap. Similarly, you might be able to sneak a deal for Harris on the cheap too, but I’d rather target Warren of the two.
It may seem crazy to buy anyone on the Saints given how badly their 2023 season was from a fantasy standpoint. I get it. But Olave is the lone bright spot on the New Orleans offense. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if they drafted a rookie quarterback to replace the aging Derek Carr. If and when they do, Olave should see a spike in his value in dynasty leagues.
He finished 2023 as WR16 in PPR scoring on a terrible team. That’s pretty impressive to me. Being that receivers hold their value better as well, I want him on my roster before that spike occurs because his talent is legitimate.
Tight end is probably the trickiest position to find value in dynasty. That being said, I love the way that Likely was surprisingly great this year when teammate Mark Andrews missed time. Likely averaged three catches and four targets per game for just over 46 yards in those seven games. He also scored five touchdowns in those seven games which is a terrific average on a great offense.
Andrews could be a cap casualty given his $17 million cap hit, and without giving too much away, I’m not convinced that he will return to the Ravens in 2024. See below for more of my thoughts on that, but if indeed he does leave, Likely vaults into TE1 territory. I want him on my team now just in case that happens.
Trade Away These Players
It’s wild to see how much Hurts’ value has changed over the last 18 months. He went from an ADP of QB11 in 2021 up to QB2 now, which is where he finished in scoring for the 2023 season. That being said, I’m pretty sure this is the peak of Hurts’ value, so I want out.
The offense will look very different next year due to an offensive coordinator change. We also can’t ignore the fact that Pro Bowl center Jason Kelce has retired, thereby limiting the potential impact of the Brotherly Shove. All signs are pointing down for me, and I want out before the rest of the community catches up. I’d be happy to tier down and add another rising asset in the process if I can pull that off.
I was shocked to see that Kamara finished as RB11 in PPR scoring this year while only playing in 13 games. He was third overall in points per game, tied for second in targets, and was second in receptions. On the other hand, he only scored five touchdowns and had the fewest carries of anyone who finished in the top 20 at the position. Kamara is an enigma. It felt like we barely heard his name this year.
All that aside, the Saints are in a massive rebuild and I wouldn’t be shocked if they go an entirely different direction in 2024. He has a $19 million cap hit this year, but the Saints are notorious for being able to absorb cap hits like that. I want out before he’s cut and his value tanks even further. Sell your league mates on his 2023 and find another running back you can ride back up the ranks instead.
The entire Texans team over-performed their expectations in 2023 and Collins might be the biggest surprise of them all. He finished as WR12 overall and WR7 in points per game in PPR scoring. He did that while also being WR25 in targets and WR17 in receptions. For most of the year he was fighting with Tank Dell for the WR1 position. After Dell got hurt, Nico became the top target for quarterback CJ Stroud and I fully expect that to continue next year.
Most fantasy leagues didn’t count Week 18, but Collins finished the year on his highest note, going nine for nine for 195 yards and a touchdown. All of this bodes well for Collins’ future, and even though his price has already gone up, I’m fine jumping onto the bandwagon late. Better late than never, right? Dell is coming back, and the team will likely address their running back position, so maybe you can convince the current Collins manager that there are a lot of question marks around him and make a deal happen that benefits you.
As I mentioned earlier, we may be about to see a changing of the guard at tight end, both in Baltimore and in fantasy. In fantasy, some younger players are rising through the ranks like Sam LaPorta and Trey McBride who will push out some of the dominant veterans of years past. This includes veterans like Andrews, as one example.
Andrews turns 29 just before the season kicks off and is looking at a massive cap hit. Even though he returned to the team for the conference championship game, his ankle injury wasn’t a small one. He could return to his former production, but I get the feeling that he’s going to get worse before he gets better. If you can pivot off of him to get younger now might be the best time to do so. Once free agency starts and the chaos begins, you might miss out on getting full value in a trade for him. Move sooner rather than later if you’re worried as well.
