2024 NFL Mock Draft: Michael Penix Jr., Devontez Walker, Xavier Worthy, Ja’Tavion Sanders

Originally, I had intended to revisit the first round of the NFL Draft in light of any coaching/front-office changes over the past two weeks. Still, upon realizing that, for the most part, my projection hadn’t changed much, I decided to build on last time’s effort, adding a second round to get a feel for how things could continue to play out on the second day.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Second-Round Picks & Predictions

First Round

You can find my latest first-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft here.

Second Round

42. Minnesota Vikings: Michael Penix Jr. (QB – Washington)

An edge defender is a major consideration here, as players like Danielle Hunter, Marcus Davenport, D.J. Wonnum and Jonathan Bullard are all impending free agents. Kirk Cousins will probably be back, but he will be a 36-year-old coming off a torn Achilles, so maybe Minnesota will look to bring in his heir apparent this year.

First-round selection: Cooper DeJean (CB – Iowa)

43. Atlanta Falcons: Devontez Walker (WR – North Carolina)

Solidifying the defensive front by lining up a replacement for either Calais Campbell or Bud Dupree – both impending free agents – is possible here. But how about trusting Raheem Morris to take care of things defensively and investing in another weapon for Jayden Daniels, especially a deep threat to take advantage of his accuracy?

First-round selection: Jayden Daniels (QB – Louisiana State)

48. Jacksonville Jaguars: Xavier Worthy (WR – Texas)

Jacksonville’s facing the potential loss of several top-edge rushers in free agency, but this seems slightly early to draft one of the remaining players there. Calvin Ridley is set to hit free agency, and Christian Kirk‘s contract seems a bit rich, so a receiver could work. Either Texas wideout would make sense, but Xavier Worthy may fit better.

First-round selection: Tyler Guyton (OT – Oklahoma)

49. Cincinnati Bengals: Ja’Tavion Sanders (TE – Texas)

How do the Bengals feel 2022 fourth-rounder Cordell Volson played this year? The Bengals could potentially lose any or all of their tight ends in free agency and/or Tee Higgins/Tyler Boyd. Joe Mixon is entering a contract year, D.J. Reader is a free agent and the linebacker position could use upgrades. I see a tight end as the most likely need.

First-round selection: J.C. Latham (OT – Alabama)
