2024 NFL Mock Draft: Five Rounds With Trades

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Five Rounds With Trades

Plenty has transpired since my first mock draft: Senior Bowl, Shrine Bowl, the Eagles’ collapse, etc. So beyond the order itself changing, here’s an updated mock draft with prospects’ stocks since changed too. We’re expanding to five rounds this time with so many prospects putting themselves on the NFL radar.

2024 NFL Mock Draft Trades

I’ve never understood when mock drafters decree that it’s “too early for trades” – why not? This is all made up anyway. And if you want a less cynical reason, if I actually think a team is at a certain point in its organizational crossroads – whether that means beginning a rebuild or pushing in chips to start contending – I’m not going to ignore that for better odds at three-months-early accuracy.

  • WSH trades: Pick 1.2 / ATL trades: Pick 1.8, Pick 3.10, 2025 R1, AJ Terrell

Nothing about Washington’s roster or recent executive decisions (i.e., bringing in the architect of the Golden State Warriors dynasty) leads me to believe that this is a team that views themselves as “a quarterback away” from being a serious threat. Atlanta, meanwhile, does fit that bill with an embarrassment of riches of offensive playmakers and nobody to get them the ball – not to mention an increasingly desperate owner. AJ Terrell is a stud, but he’s in a walk year and last year’s Bears-Panthers swap for the 1.1 pick is proof that a current asset probably needs to be involved in a trade of this magnitude.

  • NE trades: Pick 1.3 / ARZ trades: Pick 1.4, Pick 2.3, Pick 3.2

Arizona might have won themselves out of organically winning the Marvin Harrison Jr sweepstakes – unless QBs are selected with the Top 3 picks, which, consider me bearish on that possibility. Still, they have a ridiculous amount of draft capital to play with, and New England has a serious roster construction project ahead of them with holes at multiple key positions. This would be a coup for the Patriots yet an understandable move for the Cardinals.

  • PIT trades: Pick 3.21, Mason Cole / CHI trades: Justin Fields

Kenny Pickett should consider his days numbered as Pittsburgh’s starter, and Chicago is going to move on from Justin Fields. Fields is not going to return the pick that many Bears fans are probably expecting. Still, a Round 3 pick for a fourth-year QB with some real warts is nothing to sneeze at, and Cole could be a stopgap option at center for the Bears.

  • WSH trades: Pick 3.36 / DAL trades: Trey Lance

If Washington does opt to pass on a QB in this year’s class with their top pick – which, for the record, I don’t think is insane given Sam Howell’s first year as the starter falling short of being a disaster – then they’d at least need to consider an alternate path at QB with appeal. Trey Lance, who is one day younger than Michael Penix, was drafted by Adam Peters, Washington’s new GM, and most recently coached by Dan Quinn, Washington’s new Head Coach.

  • NYJ trades: Pick 4.13, Zach Wilson / DEN trades: Jerry Jeudy

Zach Wilson and Jerry Jeudy might be the two likeliest household names to get dealt this offseason. Why not fill some roster gaps and trade them for each other? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued by a potential Zach Wilson/Sean Payton pairing.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Team-by-Team Predictions

Arizona Cardinals

  • Marvin Harrison Jr
  • Troy Fautanu
  • T’Vondre Sweat
  • Jamari Thrash
  • Christian Jones
  • Jordan Travis
  • Renardo Green

Landing the possible heir apparent to Larry Fitzgerald would obviously be the highlight of this draft class for the Cardinals, but that shouldn’t distract from the chance that Arizona has to keep fortifying its offensive line following last year’s top selection of Paris Johnson Jr.

Atlanta Falcons

  • Drake Maye
  • Kamari Lassiter
  • Tez Walker
  • Caelen Carson
  • Nelson Ceaser

It’s obviously unlikely that Atlanta actually includes AJ Terrell in a trade package to move up in this Draft, but independent of that scenario, it would be wise for the Falcons to keep loading up at cornerback. It’s a position where the top performers are getting younger by the year, and the Falcons need more long-term options beyond Clark Phillips.

Baltimore Ravens

  • Amarius Mims
  • Jonathan Brooks
  • Cam Hart
  • Mekhi Wingo
  • Spencer Rattler
  • Isaiah Williams

It’s possible that Amarius Mims wouldn’t even start for Baltimore in 2024 after being their first-round pick, but he’d have a clear path to a starting job in the near future. Injuries have taken a toll on Ronnie Stanley, and Morgan Moses isn’t getting any younger holding down the right side of the line. This is the same team who took a similar approach with Orlando Brown Jr, and that turned out to be a steal.

Buffalo Bills

  • Tyler Nubin
  • Ja’Lynn Polk
  • Marshawn Kneeland
  • McKinnley Jackson
  • Roger Rosengarten
  • Jaylan Ford

I’m not sure that Tyler Nubin actually lands in Round 1 come draft day, but he’s one of the easiest prospects in this class to love and the long-time reign of Buffalo’s Jordan Poyer/Micah Hyde safety duo has probably reached its end. It’s time for them to start over at the position.

Carolina Panthers

  • Graham Barton
  • Ja’Tavion Sanders
  • Jermaine Burton
  • Braden Fiske
  • Kimani Vidal

Besides reuniting him with his literal top option from the 2022 Alabama team (Burton), Carolina could do Bryce Young a massive favor entering his critical Year 2 by giving him a more reliable option over the middle at the tight end position. Hayden Hurst isn’t going to get it done in a meaningful way, and Sanders has arguably become an underrated weapon in this draft class.

Chicago Bears

  • Caleb Williams
  • Dallas Turner
  • Javon Baker
  • Javon Bullard
  • Myles Cole
  • LaDarius Henderson
  • Jarrian Jones

I wrote one month ago that I didn’t have a personal stake in the QB1 battle between Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. That’s since changed since I’ve dug deeper into both of them; Caleb is the guy.

Cincinnati Bengals

  • Brian Thomas Jr
  • Kris Jenkins
  • Blake Fisher
  • Javon Solomon
  • Dillon Johnson
  • Kitan Oladapo

A wideout from LSU who boasts similar measurables to Tee Higgins who can also play out of the slot as a rookie? Yeah, I think Joe Burrow will give this pick the stamp of approval.

Cleveland Browns

  • Roman Wilson
  • Beau Brade
  • Tommy Eichenberg
  • AJ Barner

I’m not sure that any prospect had a better Senior Bowl performance than Roman Wilson. He climbed from early Round 4 to late Round 2 for me, and his stock might continue to rocket with another big showing at the Combine.

Dallas Cowboys

  • Keon Coleman
  • Payton Wilson
  • Audric Estime
  • Kalen King
  • Beaux Limmer

Dallas might have bigger immediate roster gaps than wide receiver, but CeeDee Lamb is the only option who they can bank on presumably going into the next era of Dak Prescott’s tenure. The Cowboys are taking on water with Michael Gallup’s contract, and Keon Coleman is already an improvement in waiting for Gallup’s role in the offense.

Denver Broncos

  • Terrion Arnold
  • Braelon Allen
  • Theo Johnson
  • Malik Washington
  • Michael Pratt

Sean Payton took the gig he could get and bit his tongue while dealing with offensive personnel that he had minimal role in choosing. That’s going to change in 2024.

Detroit Lions

  • Kingsley Suamataia
  • Xavier Legette
  • Mike Sainristil
  • DJ James
  • Cody Schrader

The Lions don’t really care about how others think they should go about the Draft; they are on the hunt for ass-kickers, positional value and projections be damned. Detroit should also never allow its offensive line to lose its place among the league’s elite. It surprised some that Suamataia was listed as a guard at the Senior Bowl, but that probably is where his elite athleticism has the highest potential to be unlocked. (He has a personal connection to Penei Sewell, too.) Jonah Jackson is a pending free agent and should land a massive payday.

Green Bay Packers

  • Chop Robinson
  • Trey Benson
  • Jaden Hicks
  • Trevin Wallace
  • Kiran Amegadjie
  • Max Melton
  • Evan Anderson

You’re telling me Green Bay has a prime opportunity to take a pass rusher who won’t do much early on but has the traits to be among the league leaders in pressures by Year 4? Go Pack Go! The Packers also should have solid odds to be the team that takes RB1 off the board, whoever that turns out to be.

Houston Texans

  • Quinyon Mitchell
  • Ruke Orhorhoro
  • Bucky Irving
  • Justin Eboigbe
  • Malik Mustapha

The Texans defense ranked 16th in DVOA in 2023 after finishing 28th in 2022. If this pattern continues and DeMeco Ryans can sport a Top 10 unit on that side of the ball in 2024, Houston could be a serious Super Bowl threat.

Indianapolis Colts

  • Taliese Fuaga
  • Leonard Taylor
  • Khyree Jackson
  • Cedric Johnson
  • Nathaniel Watson

Taliese Fuaga had a strong showing at the Senior Bowl. While it’s possible that the powerful Oregon State product has earned himself consideration for Top 10 pick, my gut is that his post-Combine range will be closer to mid first round. He’d be a plug-and-play upgrade at right guard for the Colts.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Adonai Mitchell
  • Zach Frazier
  • Austin Booker
  • Will Shipley
  • Maason Smith
  • Javion Cohen

Kansas City Chiefs

  • Byron Murphy
  • Xavier Worthy
  • Dominick Puni
  • Johnny Wilson
  • Ty’Ron Hopper
  • Jawhar Jordan

Everyone who does mock drafts is rushing to pencil a wideout to the Chiefs in Round 1, but perhaps we’re collectively underrating that Kansas City just went through one of the worst regular seasons by a receiving corps in recent memory…and are still playing in the Super Bowl? It doesn’t seem like they are going to suddenly reinvent their approach to roster building; instead, it might be likelier that they let an overlooked option at the position fall to them at the end of Round 2 (which worked out last year with Rashee Rice) and then roll the dice on an atypical weapon later on – like Florida State’s Johnny Wilson.

2024 NFL Draft Guide

Las Vegas Raiders

  • Cooper DeJean
  • Jeremiah Trotter Jr
  • Christian Haynes
  • Josh Newton
  • Dylan Laube

Tom Telesco gets his Derwin James in Cooper DeJean, and Antonio Pierce gets his – Jeremiah Trotter Sr? Antonio Pierce? – in Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Los Angeles Chargers

  • Malik Nabers
  • Bralen Trice
  • Cooper Beebe
  • Blake Corum
  • Michael Barrett

For a team that currently has $142 million in 2024 cap hits between two wide receivers and two EDGEs (Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa)…it might seem odd to start off their mock draft with a wide receiver and an EDGE! But that chapter of Chargers football needs to be emphatically slammed shut. From there, you could convince me that Jim Harbaugh handpicks five Michigan alumni with their final five picks.

Los Angeles Rams

  • Nate Wiggins
  • Ladd McConkey
  • Cole Bishop
  • Gabriel Murphy
  • Sataoa Laumea
  • Mason McCormick

There are few prospects in this class generating more takes than Ladd McConkey. You can watch a montage of his best routes and come out convinced that he’s a Round 1 player, yet his age (turning 23 in November 2024) and measurables suggest that he’s more of a Round 3 type of WR3 at the next level. In reality, his range is probably somewhere in the middle. He’d round out an awesome WR corps for the Rams with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.

Miami Dolphins

  • JJ McCarthy
  • Brandon Dorlus
  • Tanor Bortolini

This team/player pairing might generate more reactions than any other in this exercise, but it makes sense – should McCarthy remain on the board until Pick 21. This idea might be less about McCarthy than it is about Tua Tagovailoa’s future in Miami, though. Yes, Tua is a good quarterback and he’s fresh off leading the NFL in passing yards, but he’s entering the final year on his rookie contract and Miami must have pause over extending him. Mike McDaniel feels due for his version of a Stafford-over-Goff upgrade.

Minnesota Vikings

  • Jayden Daniels
  • Chris Braswell
  • Keith Randolph Jr
  • Zak Zinter
  • Braiden McGregor
  • Justin Rogers

The Vikings have done a sneaky nice job over the last two seasons of manipulating its salary cap while remaining a competitive team, but now they find themselves at a place where it’s time to make a final decision on Kirk Cousins – who’s a free agent – and Justin Jefferson set to become the highest paid wideout in the league. The best way to initiate a rebuild without resetting your organizational clock might be to land a QB who you can win with on his rookie deal while surrounding him with strength in the trenches. Well, here you go, Vikings fans!

New England Patriots

  • Joe Alt
  • Bo Nix
  • Troy Franklin
  • Jonah Elliss
  • Cade Stover
  • Jaylen Wright
  • Sione Vaki

The hype around Joe Alt is building in a way that really makes you wonder; a prospect with an upward trajectory and his combination of size, skill, age, and production removes any ceiling on how good he could be at the next level. Alt would not be a consolation prize for New England, who could still nab a QB like Bo Nix atop Round 2. New England could have the most cap space in the league with some obvious roster moves (i.e., releasing JC Jackson), so they can afford to pair an imperfect QB prospect like Nix with a proven veteran like Kirk Cousins.

New Orleans Saints

  • Jared Verse
  • Patrick Paul
  • Marist Liufau
  • Matt Goncalves
  • Marcus Harris
  • Dadrion Taylor-Demerson

These aren’t the 2017-2020 Saints who were loaded with Pro Bowlers and rotational dudes on both the offensive and defensive lines. Last year’s first-round pick of Bryan Bresee has them moving in the right direction towards fortifying those groups, but they need to keep going.

New York Giants

  • Rome Odunze
  • Michael Penix Jr
  • Ennis Rakestraw Jr
  • Christian Mahogany
  • Rasheen Ali
  • Mohamed Kamara

The Giants appear to be in a cushy position of needing an alpha wide receiver while sitting on Pick 6 in a class with three wideouts who would each be the WR1 in most years. Assuming that Marvin Harrison Jr, Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze aren’t drafted with Picks 3-5 in front of the GMen, they should be well positioned. If they do end up with Washington’s Rome Odunze, pairing him back up with Michael Penix Jr would be so much fun. Penix would unlock a vertical element of Brian Daboll’s offense that isn’t possible with Daniel Jones, even at his best.

New York Jets

  • Tyler Guyton
  • Michael Hall
  • Ricky Pearsall

I went out on a bit of a limb by slotting Guyton at Pick 10 to the Jets in my first mock draft. After his showing in Mobile for the Senior Bowl, this suddenly might be a likely outcome for the freak show right tackle.

Philadelphia Eagles

  • Laiatu Latu
  • Malachi Corley
  • Kam Kinchens
  • Tykee Smith
  • Tyrice Knight
  • MarShawn Lloyd
  • Nehemiah Pritchett
  • Layden Robinson

Pick 22 might be too late for Latu, who’s probably the most skilled pass rusher in this Draft. Still, he has medical red flags, probably won’t athletically test through the roof, and didn’t exactly blow up the Senior Bowl despite having a good week in Mobile. After restocking their EDGE group, an early priority for the Eagles should be finding another weapon who can do something with the ball in his hands and take some pressure off Jalen Hurts’ shoulder pads. How about Corley, the “YAC King” himself?

Pittsburgh Steelers

  • JC Latham
  • Sedrick Van Pran
  • Johnny Dixon
  • DeWayne Carter

Just because the series of moves that Pittsburgh made to strengthen its offensive line last offseason didn’t lead to a quick fix doesn’t mean that they should stop with that plan. They are close – moving Broderick Jones to left tackle should help. With Latham at right tackle and Van Pran at center, they might even be finished once and for all.

San Francisco 49ers

  • Kool-Aid McKinstry
  • Calen Bullock
  • Brenden Rice
  • Isaiah Adams
  • Tyler Davis
  • Drake Nugent
  • Luke McCaffrey

Besides two DBs at the top – an obvious need for San Francisco after their lack of playmaking and juice in the secondary nearly lost them the NFC Championship Game – this class stands out with Jerry Rice’s son and Christian McCaffrey’s brother. And all nepotism aside, they’d be great fits for the 49ers. Rice is incredibly physical and could step into Jauan Jennings’ role, who’s set to get paid in free agency.

Seattle Seahawks

  • Jer’Zhan Newton
  • Ben Sinnott
  • James Williams
  • Brandon Coleman
  • Jaylen Harrell

Not only would the Fighting Illini reunion of Devon Witherspoon and Jer’Zhan Newton in Seattle be extremely fun, but DT is probably the biggest roster need for the Seahawks. After him, I love the idea of Ben Sinnott in Seattle. Round 3 might seem high for a pseudo fullback, but Sinnott is the type of prospect who fans of all 32 teams are picking for themselves in mock draft simulators.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Jackson Powers-Johnson
  • TJ Tampa
  • Jalen McMillan
  • Cedric Gray

One of the top storylines coming out of the Senior Bowl is that Jackson Powers-Johnson isn’t making it to Round 2. He could even go before this; Miami and Dallas are real options. Also, I swear, I didn’t slot TJ Tampa to the Bucs for the laughs – it actually makes sense!

Tennessee Titans

  • Olu Fashanu
  • Edgerrin Cooper
  • Kris Abrams-Draine
  • Jacob Cowing

There might not be a more ascendant prospect in this class than Edgerrin Cooper, who was probably viewed as a Day 3 draft pick coming into the 2023 college football season. But then, Cooper balled out en route to being named a Consensus All-American, and now he’s an early crush of some of the biggest names in the space. (Daniel Jeremiah has him ranked at No. 20 on his first board.) With an explosive performance at the Combine, Cooper could be the surprise first-rounder of this Draft.

Washington Commanders

  • Brock Bowers
  • Jordan Morgan
  • Darius Robinson
  • Junior Colson
  • Adisa Isaac
  • Ray Davis
  • Delmar Glaze

Trading down to collect a haul and then drafting arguably the best position-specific player in this entire class (Bowers) would be some way to jumpstart a new era in Washington.
