2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Delmar Glaze

Delmar Glaze (OT – Maryland)

6’5” – 328 lbs.

Background:

Delmar Glaze was a three-star recruit who redshirted in 2020 after appearing in one game. He then started six games the following year, all but the first at right tackle (the other for 18 snaps on the left side), allowing zero sacks. He reprised his role as the team’s starting right tackle in 2022 (one start at left tackle), allowing just four sacks. He then flipped over to the left side and gave up three sacks on the year.

Positives:

Has 32 starts under his belt with experience at both left and right tackle. Very thickly-built lineman with the functional strength his frame would suggest. Polished player with a strong feel for the position and good competitiveness through the whistle. More workmanlike than nasty but plays with good toughness and a physical on-field demeanor. Short-area quickness is impressive, especially considering his size; was frequently asked to climb up to the second level and is effective at engaging linebackers with form. Does a nice job of playing within his frame with proper balance. Shows a strong understanding of positioning to wall off opponents. Technically sound in his pass sets — stable base, adequate knee bend and a straight back. Lateral quickness is good enough to protect the edge against most rushers. Was often able to get the job done even when active with his punch. Does a good job of resetting. Easily absorbs power from opposing bull-rushers.

Negatives:

Height and length measurements will be important to solidify his status as a tackle rather than a guard conversion candidate, a position he lacks experience. Not the most flexible tackle and doesn’t have quite the leverage you’d hope for in a tackle whose height/length looks closer to average; works hard to stick with opponents in the run game but isn’t the bulldozer his weight and build would suggest. Some stilted lateral movements when protecting the edge. Overall balance and technique in pass protection wane a bit with distance. Struggles to get going again once his feet stop. Recovery speed in pass protection is just adequate. Can be susceptible to late stunts and twists.

Summary:

A thickly built, experienced tackle with experience on both ends of the line. Shows an impressive understanding of positioning and the short-area quickness to climb up to the second level and successfully engage linebackers. Also offers consistent pass protection, with nice pass sets, active hands and an easy anchor. While he’s not the smoothest or most flexible blocker in the class he should appeal to teams looking for a relatively safe, pro-ready lineman. Could get looks within the top hundred or so picks.

Projection: Round 3/Round 4
