Dynasty Trade Advice: Tyjae Spears, Roschon Johnson, Justin Fields (2024 Fantasy Football)

The 2023 fantasy football season has ended, but now is no time to rest if you’re a fantasy manager who plays in dynasty leagues. Player values can swing wildly over the next few months between free agency and the NFL Draft, so hitting the trade market in your leagues early in the offseason can often be fruitful if you have specific players you’re targeting. Let’s dive into the players I’m currently looking to buy in dynasty leagues with the fantasy offseason upon us.

4 Dynasty Fantasy Football Players to Buy

Tyjae Spears (RB – TEN)

Tyjae Spears had 49 receptions as a rookie, which was good enough to be 11th among all running backs in the NFL. We know the floor a player has when he’s a capable pass catcher at the running back position, but Spears could also find himself atop the depth chart in Tennessee if Derrick Henry is playing elsewhere in 2024. He’s positioned for a full-blown breakout in 2024, and his value will almost assuredly rise over the next few months when free agency gets underway.

If you can trade a 2024 second-round rookie pick for Spears plus another smaller accompanying piece, I’d pull the trigger in a heartbeat. I’d be comfortable sending as much as a late first-rounder on a running back needy contending roster. We could be talking about Spears in 2024 like we have been talking about Rachaad White this season.

Roschon Johnson (RB – CHI)

The division of work across Chicago Bears running backs was mildly frustrating in 2023, but I’m looking to add Roschon Johnson to my dynasty rosters now while the value is likely still middling. While Johnson saw fewer carries than Khalil Herbert (76 attempts compared to Herbert’s 120), he did see 40 targets in the passing game, which was most among Bears’ running backs.

The Bears hold the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and could look to move on from current signal caller Justin Fields. If they do so, the Bears could lean on a more traditional rushing attack that doesn’t hinge on their quarterback seeing 100+ rushing attempts per season. Combine that with the fact that D’Onta Foreman likely won’t be back with the team, and it’s easy to see the path toward Johnson’s role significantly expanding in 2024.

I’d send offers focused on packaging multiple later picks for Johnson. If you have a stockpile of 2024 third-rounders, see if an offer of two 2024 third-rounders gets it done or a single third-rounder plus a player from a position of depth on your roster.
