2024 NFL Mock Draft: Xavier Legette, J.J. McCarthy, Troy Franklin, Ladd McConkey

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Xavier Legette, J.J. McCarthy, Troy Franklin, Ladd McConkey

Originally, I had intended to revisit the first round of the NFL Draft in light of any coaching/front-office changes over the past two weeks. Still, upon realizing that, for the most part, my projection hadn’t changed much, I decided to build on last time’s effort, adding a second round to get a feel for how things could continue to play out on the second day.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Second-Round Picks & Predictions

First Round

Second Round

33. Carolina Panthers: Xavier Legette (WR – South Carolina)

Getting help for Bryce Young has to be the priority here, as Carolina’s receivers struggled to gain consistent separation this past season. New head coach Dave Canales knows how valuable big receivers are, as he’s worked with D.K. Metcalf in Seattle and Mike Evans in Tampa Bay. This would add an element of power and physicality.

34. New England Patriots: J.J. McCarthy (QB – Michigan)

We still don’t know who will be serving as the offensive coordinator for the Patriots next season, but after taking Marvin Harrison Jr. in the first round, a quarterback is at the top of the list. J.J. McCarthy didn’t have to carry Michigan offensively, but there are a lot of pro-style reads and throws on his tape, and he has impressive arm talent.

First-round selection: Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR – Ohio State)

35. Arizona Cardinals: Troy Franklin (WR – Oregon)

Narrowly missing out on Marvin Harrison Jr. in the first round should have the Cardinals looking for wide receiver help on Day 2. While Michael Wilson had a solid rookie year, the team is still missing a big-bodied No. 1 type. Troy Franklin isn’t the sturdiest player, but he’s a tall vertical threat with great body control.

First-round selection: Joe Alt (OT – Notre Dame)

45. New Orleans Saints: Ladd McConkey (WR – Georgia)

How sure are the Saints that Derek Carr is their quarterback of the future? They can get out of his contract next year and save $40 million against the cap. However, I’d give him one more year and focus on replacing injury-prone receiver Michael Thomas instead. Another consideration would be a big, strong edge rusher, but it seems early.

First-round selection: Amarius Mims (OT – Georgia)
