2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Kiran Amegadjie

Kiran Amegadjie (OT – Yale)

6’5” – 318 lbs.

Background:

Kiran Amegadjie was an unranked 260-pound tackle recruit coming out of high school who did not play in the 2020 season. Took over the starting left guard job the following year, totaling 10 starts (the Ivy League plays a 10-game season). He allowed one sack over that span. Flipped to left tackle the following year, again starting all 10 games, this time with no sacks allowed. Also did not allow a sack this past year but was limited by a quad injury to just four games.

Positives:

Has two-and-a-half years of starting experience between left tackle and guard. Reportedly has 36 ¾” arms. He has added a ton of bulk since arriving at school, giving him excellent size and length. Fires out low and with some explosion to jolt opponents on contact. Aggressiveness to get physical through the whistle should appeal to pro teams. Shows a good understanding of position with above-average short-area quickness to wall off opponents. Leg drive after contact is very good and he works hard to generate push. The team often left him on an island in pass protection. Has clean footwork in his kick slide. His combination of excellent length and above-average lateral quickness allows him to protect the edge against speed. Gets good extension to lock out opponents in pass protection. Short-area quickness is above average, and, combined with his very good work rate, allows him to get out in space and engage opponents.

Negatives:

Comes from a relatively low level of competition, so there could be an adjustment period as he gets used to pro-caliber rushers. Despite his outstanding length he can be a bit of a waist-bender/leaner and has some occasional balance issues, which crop up and cause him to fall off of blocks. Tendency to lower his head into contact. His approach in pass protection can sometimes be overly aggressive. Would like to see him sink his hips and get in his seat more consistently to establish a more stable base. Can struggle to get moving again once he sets his feet in the passing game, allowing second-effort pressures. Doesn’t have the most violence in his punch. Quad injury will require further evaluation during the pre-draft process.

Summary:

One of the premier small-school prospects in this year’s class, his excellent length, thick build and above-average athleticism give him starting left tackle potential at the pro level. While there are some inefficiencies to his game, positional value and upside should make him a second-day pick for a team that thinks they can coach him up. Most importantly, will need to play with more patience and discipline to avoid the balance issues present on tape.

Projection: Round 2
