Top 6 Injuries to Know: Week 17 Waiver Wire (2023 Fantasy Football)

Congratulations to all those who advanced to the championship in their leagues, there are a few injuries that could be impactful going into the final week. As always, practice reports throughout the week are crucial to monitor for all of these players throughout the week.

Top 6 Injuries to Know: Week 17 Waiver Wire

Jordan Addison (WR – MIN)

Addison suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s game. He is being called “week-to-week” and there is no word on whether it is a high ankle sprain or a low ankle sprain. The first few days after are crucial in figuring out the severity, and if Addison picks up DNPs on Wednesday and Thursday’s practices, plan to be without him for the game. KJ Osborn and Brandon Powell had increased roles with Addison out, but Osborn is the clear waiver player to target with T.J. Hockenson out for the season with ACL and MCL injuries and Addison potentially missing time.

Waiver considerations: KJ Osborn

TJ Hockenson (TE – MIN)

As alluded to above, Hockenson suffered season-ending ACL and MCL injuries on Sunday. With this, both KJ Osborn and Brandon Powell will have increased roles. I wouldn’t prioritize picking up one of the backup Vikings’ tight ends, as there are probably plenty of better options on waivers.

Waiver considerations: KJ Osborn

DJ Moore (WR – CHI)

Moore suffered what appeared to be a high ankle sprain, however, he will likely attempt to play through this, especially with the Bears out of the playoff race. Darnell Mooney will become the WR1 in their offense going forward, but it’s hard to imagine that he will be relevant in fantasy next week.

Waiver considerations: Darnell Mooney

Jaylen Waddle (WR – MIA)

Waddle is reportedly dealing with a high ankle sprain. As discussed in previous weeks, minor high ankle sprains have the chance for a player to return in 1-2 weeks, but the more significant injuries linger, with the return to play around 3-5 weeks, with a significant decrease in performance. Monitor practice reports for Waddle. If he doesn’t play, more targets will obviously go Tyreek Hill‘s way, with an increase in target share to RBs, and possibly Durham Smythe or Cedrick Wilson.

Waiver considerations: Durham Smythe/Cedrick Wilson in deep leagues

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)

Lawrence suffered a sprained shoulder to his throwing shoulder in this weekend’s game against the Bucs. Initial reports are that the injury is minor, and if this is the case, I expect him to participate in practices this week and play. If he attempts to practice and is unable, he will likely miss next week’s game. If he misses, it will be tough to trust any Jags pass catchers with CJ Beathard at the helm.

Waiver considerations: None

Courtland Sutton (WR – DEN)

Sutton suffered a concussion at the beginning of Sunday’s game. As we know with concussions, approximately 60% of players miss next week’s game, so if you have Sutton, I would have a backup plan. Without Sutton, Russ likely spreads the ball around making all pass catchers not entirely relevant next week.

Waiver considerations: None
