Top 11 Injuries to Know: Week 14 Waiver Wire (2023 Fantasy Football)

Top 11 Injuries to Know: Week 14 Waiver Wire (2023 Fantasy Football)

A rough week for injuries, as a bunch of big-name players suffered injuries. Like we say every week, monitor practice reports, which start to come out on Wednesday, as they are the most solid information throughout the week.

These projections are educated guesses based on a variety of factors, including the mechanism of injury, injury history, and historical data.

Top 11 Injuries to Know: Week 14 Waiver Wire

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAC)

Lawrence suffered an ankle injury in Monday night’s game against the Bengals. Based on the mechanism, if I had to guess, it appears to be a low ankle sprain, but there should be more information about this on Tuesday. If it’s a high ankle sprain, expect Lawrence to miss up to two to five weeks. If it’s a low ankle sprain, he will likely miss one to three weeks. If he plays through the injury, expect a performance decrease due to his lessened mobility.

Waiver considerations: CJ Beathard in 2QB leagues

Tank Dell (WR – HOU)

Unfortunately, Tank Dell suffered a season-ending fibula fracture. This vacates a lot of targets for other options, including Nico Collins, Dalton Schultz, Noah Brown and Robert Woods. Personally, that is the order I rank the pass catchers for the Texans for the rest of the season. If Dalton Schultz misses time, Brevin Jordan is a decent option, but I would prefer Noah Brown over him. As CJ Stroud continues to elevate his receivers, we want a piece of that offense for the fantasy playoffs.

Waiver considerations: Dalton Schultz, Noah Brown, Robert Woods, Brevin Jordan

Rhamondre Stevenson (RB – NE)

Stevenson suffered an ankle injury in Sunday’s game, and based on the mechanism, it appeared to be a high ankle sprain. Stevenson logged a did not practice (DNP) on Monday, which is not a good sign for a Thursday game. I expect Stevenson to miss three to four weeks, and if he does return this season, it will be with a significant performance dip. Ezekiel Elliott will receive the bulk of the work out of the backfield and is a great pickup for those looking for RB help.

Waiver considerations: Ezekiel Elliott

Derrick Henry (RB – TEN)

Henry suffered a head injury when he hit the turf hard and did not return to the game. Although he was not placed in concussion protocol on Monday, there is a small chance he can have latent symptoms and enter protocol on Tuesday. Either way, Tyjae Spears is an elite handcuff option and would be a high-end weekly play if Henry were to miss time, although Henry will likely not miss time from this. Either way, Spears should be rostered in case Henry does suffer an injury.

Waiver considerations: Tyjae Spears

Brian Robinson (RB – WAS)

Robinson suffered a hamstring strain on Sunday. Luckily, the commanders have their bye coming up this week, so he gets a chance to rest. If the strain is minor, there’s a chance Robinson can suit up for the first round of the fantasy playoffs. Although, if it’s more serious, he may not play at all for the rest of the season. Monitor his status in practice. It may be a good idea to pick up Antonio Gibson in case Robinson misses time.

Waiver considerations: Antonio Gibson

Kenny Pickett (QB – PIT)

Pickett underwent ankle surgery Monday morning following an injury during Sunday’s game. Expect Pickett to likely miss the rest of the fantasy season. Mitch Trubisky will be the starter, and will just be a desperation play in a 2QB league. I expect a small downgrade to the Steelers offense with Trubisky.

Waiver considerations: None

Derek Carr (QB – NO)

Carr entered concussion protocol on Monday after suffering a head injury. With concussion, most players are in protocol for seven days, so we estimate that Carr has around a 30-40% chance of playing next week. If he does not play, Jameis Winston will be the starter and is an interesting streamer option against the Panthers.

Waiver considerations: Jameis Winston

Marquise Brown (WR – ARI)

Brown aggravated the heel injury that he came into the game with. Luckily for Brown, the Cardinals have a bye next week, so he will likely rest up and not miss any games. If he were to surprisingly miss time, that would give a boost to Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch and Rondale Moore.

Waiver considerations: Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch, Rondale Moore

Amari Cooper (WR – CLE)

Cooper entered concussion protocol on Monday. As mentioned above, expect Cooper to miss next week’s game. With the current QB play with the Browns, there aren’t very many enticing options. Elijah Moore is an option if you’re desperate, and David Njoku is still a decent TE play.

Christian Watson (WR – GB)

Watson suffered a hamstring strain at the end of Sunday night’s game against the Chiefs. Unfortunately, this is a reinjury that Watson had earlier in the season, so I expect he will miss multiple weeks with this. This once again leaves the other Packers WRs as good waiver options, including Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. The TEs are also interesting: Luke Musgrave (if he plays) and Tucker Kraft.

Waiver considerations at WR: Jaylen Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks

At TE: Luke Musgrave, Tucker Kraft

Puka Nacua (WR – LAR)

Puka suffered a rib/shoulder injury but was able to return to the game. I don’t expect him to miss time.
