Rival Fantasy NFL: Week 16

Challenges

Christian McCaffrey dominated last week, making him the easy winner over Kyren Williams. For Week 16, we will go back to wide receivers. I decided to choose two of the hottest receivers over the last few weeks and settled on Rashee Rice and Chris Olave.

Rashee Rice has caught fire for the Kansas City Chiefs and has proved to be the possession threat with after the catch juice that the Chiefs were hoping for when they drafted him. After years of striking out on the likes of Skyy Moore, Cornell Powell, and Mecole Hardman, they finally went after a traditional wide receiver type, and it is paying dividends. Since Week 12, Rice has averaged 9.5 targets, 8.0 receptions, and 84 receiving yards per game on a 27.6 percent target share.

Olave has averaged 7.3 targets, 5.3 receptions, and 87 receiving yards on 25 percent of the targets. Well on his way to his second consecutive 1,000 receiving yard season to start his career, Olave is one of the brightest young talents in the game. The Derek Carr experience hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, but Olave is still averaging career highs in receptions per game and yards per game, even if his targets per game are down. Traditional wisdom says Olave wins this week’s challenge, but Rashee has been hot enough to make this one interesting.

Fantasy Bingo

Week 15 brought more disappointment at Fantasy Bingo. None of the corner squares were close, with my closest call coming on a vertical line. I was able to hit zero fumbles lost (QB), one rushing TD plus two receiving TDs (RB), and one receiving TD in the third quarter (RB), but missed out on more than two receiving TDs (TE) and four field goals made (K). With this being our last Rival Fantasy column of the season, we will go with 10 cards.

Despite purchasing 10 Fantasy Bingo cards for Week 16, RNG wasn’t kind to us. There are no corner squares with more than a sliver of hope, as most rely on things like a specific number of touchdowns for a position, field goals missed, or rushing yards from a tight end or receiver. The one corner square I will be monitoring has more than two receiving TDs (TE), more than two rushing TDs (RB), more than 100 rushing yards (QB), and two rushing TDs (QB). As you can imagine, this square has an incredibly low hit probability, which should tell you all you need to know about the other 39 corner squares (there were even ones with conflicting achievements, such as two total TDs (WR) and three or more receiving TDs (WR) in the same corner).

Difficult achievements included on my cards this week include two TDs rushing + one receiving TD + one passing TD (RB), three passing TDs in the second quarter (QB), one rushing TD in the second quarter (WR), 25 rushing yards (TE), 90 receiving yards (RB), zero field goals made (K), more than 50 rushing yards (WR), one rushing TD and two receiving TDs (RB), 500 total yards (QB), 100 rushing yards (QB), five field goals made (K), two receiving TDs in the fourth quarter (RB), one rushing TD in the fourth quarter (WR), three field goals missed (K), more than three sacks (QB), more than four passing TDs in the third quarter (QB), and more than four passing TDs in the fourth quarter (QB). These, of course, are not the only challenging achievements, as there are oddly specific achievements like the three passing TDs in the second quarter littered across the skill positions. There are also more doable but far from a sure thing achievements like 125 receiving yards (TE), 150 receiving yards (WR), and two TDs rushing plus one receiving (RB). These all seem to be common achievements that have shown up each week.

My roster for this week is pretty similar to my Week 15 lineup. Jalen Hurts, Christian McCaffrey, Kyren Williams, Alvin Kamara, A.J. Brown, and Justin Tucker all make another appearance, while Trey McBride and Stefan Diggs join the fray. McBride has been a target monster with Kyler Murray under center, and Diggs appears set for a bounce-back performance against a drain-circling Los Angeles Chargers team. Good luck to all on your Fantasy Bingo teams this week.
