Rival Fantasy NFL: Week 14

Challenges

Week 13’s challenge was as exciting as we hoped it would be, with Christian McCaffrey narrowly edging out the red-hot Kyren Williams. I thought about repeating this challenge for Week 14 but decided to go back to wide receiver. My challenge for this week will be between Michael Pittman Jr. and Keenan Allen. Both players are on teams with key injuries and have looked like two of the best receivers in the NFL this season.

Keenan Allen needs no introduction. He is a longtime elite receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers who has been able to pair great size and elite route running with two exceptional quarterbacks in Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert. Keenan is averaging 8.5 receptions for 97.9 receiving yards per game, both career highs. He is set to set career highs in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns in his age-31 season. This weekend, he will face off against a familiar foe in the Denver Broncos. Denver has some talent on defense, but unless they are willing to sell out to stop Keenan, the veteran wideout should have another strong game.

Michael Pittman has been excellent this season and has really come on strong in recent weeks. He is averaging 7.3 receptions for 74.1 receiving per game. His numbers don’t quite compare to Keenan’s, but he has been tremendous nonetheless. Like Keenan, Pittman will set career highs in every category this season. He is close enough that he can set them all this week. Pittman has been the unquestioned top target since Josh Downs suffered a concussion earlier this season and should continue to eat in Week 14 against the Cincinnati Bengals. I will be taking the Pittman side and be leaving the Keenan side open.

Fantasy Bingo

Week 13 brought us another loss. There were some close calls, however. On one ticket, I was two achievements short of a horizontal line, missing zero to 19 yard field goal (K) and more than 250 passing yards (QB). The passing yards are one I expect to hit weekly, while the field goal one is specific enough to be left up to pure chance. On another ticket, I was just one achievement short of a horizontal line, missing just two field goals made (K). The achievement is truly specific as it requires you to land on two field goals on the dot, not two or more.

For Week 14, I will be sticking to five cards. There are some corners to watch this week. On one card, there is six to nine receptions (WR), more than three passing TDs (QB), 40 to 49 yard field goal (K), and more than three total TDs (WR). This corner has a very low probability as there is a very specific field goal achievement coupled with an achievement asking for four or more TDs (WR). There are some other cards with three intriguing achievements in a corner square, but they are all matched with extremely low probability propositions.

Difficult achievements included on my cards this week include two TDs rushing + one receiving TD + one passing TD (RB), three passing TDs in the second quarter (QB), one rushing TD in the second quarter (WR), 25 rushing yards (TE), 90 receiving yards (RB), zero field goals made (K), more than 50 rushing yards (WR), one rushing TD and two receiving TDs (RB), 500 total yards (QB), 100 rushing yards (QB), five field goals made (K), two receiving TDs in the fourth quarter (RB), one rushing TD in the fourth quarter (WR), three field goals missed (K), more than three sacks (QB), more than four passing TDs in the third quarter (QB), and more than four passing TDs in the fourth quarter (QB). These, of course, are not the only challenging achievements, as there are oddly specific achievements like the three passing TDs in the second quarter littered across the skill positions. There are also more doable but far from a sure thing achievements like 125 receiving yards (TE), 150 receiving yards (WR), and two TDs rushing plus one receiving (RB). These all seem to be common achievements that have shown up each week.

My roster for Week 14 has more than a few familiar faces, as we will be tapping Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback, Tyreek Hill, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Keenan Allen at wide receiver, Sam LaPorta at tight end, and Jason Sanders at kicker. Everyone but Tyreek was selected due to having a plus matchup. Tyreek is someone I roster whenever he is active.
