The NHL returns tonight with a 10-game slate across the league.
There are a ton of different ways to get in on the action, but I’m heading the DFS route today. Below, I’ve listed the lineup that I’m playing at DraftKings in the classic $50,000 Salary format. I’ve also listed each player’s price at FanDuel.
Let’s dive into the lineup and who I believe will have a big night on the ice!
Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis
Lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.
C1: Leon Draisaitl (EDM) | $8,000 DK, $9,400 FD
I have a pair of Oilers in my lineup tonight as Edmonton gears up to host a lowly Chicago Blackhawks team. Leon Draisaitl has been instrumental in Edmonton’s seven-game win streak, racking up nine points (5G, 4A) over the stretch. This run has brought him up to 32 points on the year (11G, 21A), with 16 of them (8G, 8A) coming on the power play. This is a favorable matchup for the Oilers, as the Hawks rank 31st in goals against (3.30 GAA), 29th in expected goals against per 60 minutes (3.49) and 27th in high-danger shots against (113).
C2: Cole Perfetti (WPG) |$5,000 DK, $5,700 FD
One of the other games I’m eyeing tonight is the Jets vs. Sharks nightcap out west. Winnipeg’s playing well, as they’ve earned four straight victories. They’ll have another beneficial matchup, considering San Jose is still dead last in both goals against (3.93 GAA) and expected goals against per 60 minutes (3.92). Cole Perfetti should make a solid, moderately priced option at center tonight. He has 19 points (9G, 10A) through 26 games, with six of those points (4G, 2A) coming on the power play.
W1: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) | $5,200 DK, $6,400 FD
Along with Draisaitl, I’ll lock in top winger Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He ranks fifth on the Oilers’ roster with 24 points (5G, 19A) through 25 games. Simply playing alongside Connor McDavid should help Nugent-Hopkins make his way onto the scoresheet tonight. As mentioned, the Hawks are one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. They also have a pedestrian PK, which ranks just 21st overall (77.01%). Look for this top PP line, which features Nugent-Hopkins, to find some success tonight.
W2: Nino Niederreiter (WPG) | $4,600 DK, $5,800 FD
The other Jet I want to lock in tonight is Nino Niederreiter. The winger is off to a decent start this season, racking up 16 points on seven goals and nine helpers. Despite playing just 15:15 TOI/G, he still ranks fourth on the team in SOG (64). Look for the Jets to carry a heavy forecheck tonight against the struggling Sharks, which should lead to some great chances for Niederreiter and this Winnipeg offense.
W3: Daniel Sprong (DET) | $4,100 DK, $4,800 FD
The Red Wings are looking to bounce back after a 6-3 beatdown last night at the hands of the Stars. They’ll make the short trip north to St. Louis, where they square off against a Blues side that’s on a three-game losing streak.
Detroit is one of the best offenses in the league right now, ranking second in goals per game (3.7). They’re getting contributions from all levels, including the bottom six, which is where Daniel Sprong slots in. Sprong’s currently sixth on the team in scoring (7G, 11A) and ranks third in SOG (67). He makes a cheap option tonight as he attempts to score against a St. Louis club that’s 28th in expected goals against per 60 minutes (3.46).
D1: Adam Fox (NYR) | $5,700 DK, $7,400 FD
One of the marquee matchups in the NHL tonight pits the Maple Leafs against the Rangers in the Big Apple. The Rangers will be looking to score on a Leafs team that ranks 17th overall in goals against (3.08 GAA). I’ll take Adam Fox as my top defenseman tonight. He runs point on the top power play, where 13 (3G, 10A) of his 17 points (3G, 14A) have come from this season. Toronto’s PK is ranked 15th in the league, shutting down 80.77% of opposing man-advantage opportunities.
D2: Shayne Gostisbehere (DET) | $4,800 DK, $5,800 FD
I’ll also play Shayne Gostisbehere in tonight’s Wings vs. Blues game. The power-play specialist has seen 11 (2G, 9A) of his 21 points (5G, 16A) come on the man advantage. Detroit’s power play will be squaring off against St. Louis’ 20th-ranked PK, a unit that’s killing just 78.38% of opposing opportunities.
G: Sergei Bobrovsky (FLA) | $7,900 DK, $8,400 FD
There is some low-hanging fruit out there tonight in terms of netminding options, like Stuart Skinner ($8,600) or Connor Hellebuyck ($8,500). I’ll save a few bucks and ride with Sergei Bobrovsky, who leads his Panthers on the road tonight against the Kraken. “Bob” enters this contest at 13-6-1 with a 2.42 GAA (7th) and .913 SV% (17th). His task is slowing down an underwhelming Seattle offense that’s scoring just 2.5 goals per game (30th).
UTIL: Vladimir Tarasenko (OTT) |$4,500 DK, $5,300 FD
Finally, I’ll lock in Vladimir Tarasenko tonight as my util-man. The veteran winger has notched 19 points this season (6G, 13A), which is third on the Senators. Ottawa hosts the Hurricanes tonight, and the Canes have surrendered 3.75 goals per game during their current four-game losing streak. They’re currently 24th in goals against, allowing 3.19 goals per contest. I think Ottawa finds success offensively against this Carolina club that’s struggling mightily.
