Fantasy Football Running Back Handcuff Rankings & Updates (Week 14)

Fantasy Football Running Back Handcuff Rankings & Updates (Week 14)

This will be the final handcuff report, as most leagues will be beginning their playoffs, and seasons are starting to come to an end. The fantasy football season can be a grind, and for those of you who have followed since August, I appreciate you. This is my fourth season doing the handcuff article, and it has become a big part of my own research. I hope you have found the article helpful, and if you are making a playoff run, I wish you the best of luck over the next few weeks.

We saw a few running backs go down on Sunday, and it looks like two of them (Brian Robinson and Rhamondre Stevenson) could miss at least a game or more. For Stevenson, the combination of a high ankle sprain and the Patriots being on a short week leaves him virtually no chance to see the field Thursday in Pittsburgh. Ezekiel Elliott will be popular this week and should see 20 touches. He could be the starter for the next several weeks. Robinson’s status is a little more uncertain, as he injured his hamstring, but I would plan for the worst here. Soft tissue injuries can be tricky, and with the Commanders drawing dead, there is no reason to rush him back.

The other running back injury to monitor is in Tennessee, where Derrick Henry exited early for a head injury. However, reports on Monday are that he is not in concussion protocol, so there is a chance he will suit up next week. Obviously, Tyjae Spears becomes interesting should Henry be inactive, but this is another one to watch as the week progresses.

Handcuff Notes From Week 13

Now, for what I saw at the position this week, followed by the handcuff rankings for Week 14:

  • Zack Moss had crazy usage yesterday, playing on 67 of a possible 71 snaps (94%). He finished with 21 touches for 57 scoreless yards, but that type of snap share is why he is the top handcuff in fantasy.
  • Zach Charbonnet is another back who was getting insane usage before a knee bruise knocked him out of the game Thursday night. Charbonnet was in on 74% of the snaps and had 20 touches for 99 yards and a score in a tough matchup with Dallas. Monitor him and Kenneth Walker this week.
  • De’Von Achane returned and led the Dolphins in snape share (57%) and touches (20). He went for 103 yards and two rushing scores. Although, 11 of Achane’s carries came in the fourth quarter when the game was long decided.
  • Both Bijan Robinson (75%) and Breece Hall (67%) continue to have a strong grip on their respective backfields. It’s a shame they play in such bad offensive environments. Hopefully, 2024 will be more kind to both.
  • Najee Harris outsnapped Jaylen Warren 36-26, an odd turn of events, given the Steelers were trailing most of the game. Pittsburgh’s offensive woes continued Sunday, and you will need a big play or touchdown from either back for them to matter.
  • D’Andre Swift took a big hit late and left the game in the fourth quarter on Sunday. The team didn’t immediately provide an update, but Kenneth Gainwell could be a sneaky add this week.
  • Dameon Pierce out-touched Devin Singletary 15-9 and scored a touchdown on Sunday. This was a week after Singletary played 81% of the snaps for Houston and coming off a stretch where he was an RB1 in Pierce’s absence. I wouldn’t feel great about either back moving forward despite Houston’s offense being on fire.

Handcuff Rankings

  1. Zack Moss (IND)
  2. Zach Charbonnet (SEA)
  3. Tyjae Spears (TEN)
  4. Jaylen Warren (PIT)
  5. Kenneth Gainwell (PHI) – Monitor Swift’s health.
  6. D’Ernest Johnson (JAX)
  7. Rico Dowdle (DAL)
  8. Keaton Mitchell (BAL)
  9. AJ Dillon (GB)
  10. Ty Chandler (MIN)
  11. Tyler Allgeier (ATL)
  12. Elijah Mitchell (SF)
  13. Kareem Hunt (CLE)
  14. Dameon Pierce (HOU)
  15. Miles Sanders (CAR)
  16. Joshua Kelley (LAC)

*Note:  At this point, any starter that goes down will result in their handcuff being a good play. The players listed above have the best chance at a 60% snap and touch share in that scenario.
