2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jordan Travis (QB – Florida State)

FantasyPros will be taking a look at early NFL Draft scouting reports before the Combine in March. Here’s a look at Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis.

2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Jordan Travis

Jordan Travis (QB – Florida State)

6’1” – 212 lbs.

Background:

Three-star recruit who originally attended Louisville, playing sparingly in 2018 before transferring to the Seminoles. Barely played in 2019 before starting six games the following year and throwing for 1,056 yards with six touchdowns, adding 97-569-7 on the ground (3-3 record.) Started nine games the following year and threw for 1,539 yards (62.9%, 7.9 YPA) with fifteen touchdowns, six interceptions, and 134-530-7 rushing. College career really took off in 2022, when the team went 10-3 and he threw for 3,214 yards (64.0%, 9.1) with 24 touchdowns, five interceptions, and 82-417-7 rushing. Was undefeated across eleven starts in 2023 before sustaining a season-ending lower leg injury; finished with 2,734 yards (64.1%, 8.5), twenty touchdowns, and two interceptions, with another seven touchdowns on the ground.

Positives:

Has thirty-nine starts to his name, a favorable trajectory, and a reputation as a winner. Light on his feet. A pretty decisive passer who doesn’t take too long in the pocket. Has a three-quarters delivery with a pretty quick release. Generates a lot of torque with his throwing motion. Overall velocity is above-average, with a nice spiral. Confident enough to test tight windows; doesn’t need to see his receivers open. Pretty accurate on shorter throws, facilitating yards after the catch. Knows when to take something off of his throws and use a bit of touch. Flashes the ability to throw with touch and accuracy down the field. Has been highly effective off of play action, which is a major element of the Seminoles’ offense. Keeps his eyes downfield and will take a hit to complete a pass. Has been a very effective runner in the past, although he’s been transitioning into more of a pocket passer.

Negatives:

Will be a 24-year-old rookie. On the small side for a pro quarterback. Stats are somewhat padded by a very high percentage of screens, although the Seminoles throw downfield more often than some other top prospects. Quirky throwing mechanics. Doesn’t always transfer weight effectively, with too many dangerous back-foot throws. Effectiveness drops off significantly when he’s under pressure, with some risky decisions into tight coverage. Doesn’t always sense rushers closing in on him. Pre-draft medicals will be important after suffering a gruesome lower-leg injury at the end of the year.

Summary:

A highly-productive college quarterback who has some natural athleticism and touch, and proved himself to be a winner in school. However, his mechanics and weight transfer are inconsistent, and those elements may prevent him from developing into a starter at the next level. Might have been able to solidify himself as a mid-round pick had he made it through the season, but his season-ending injury could influence his draft stock and push him down the board a bit.

Projection: Round 5-6
