Rival Fantasy NFL: Week 9

Challenges

Wow. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that Jakobi Meyers would win the Week 8 challenge with just one reception. The Josh McDaniels era is finally over in Las Vegas, but the damage is done. On to this week. For Week 9, we will pit another two teammates against each other. In one corner, we have Gabe Davis, the inconsistent but, at times, game-breaking Bills receiver. In the other corner, we have Khalil Shakir, who finally showed up in Week 8.

Shakir has been a disappointment to this point in his career. There have been flashes but zero consistency to the point that the Bill started looking to players like Isaiah McKenzie, Deonte Harty, Jamison Crowder, and Trent Sherfield for production. He had a career day in Week 8, recording six receptions for 92 receiving yards. He starred out of the slot instead of the outside, but the results were encouraging, with four receptions of more than 10 yards. He is an intriguing talent who had dynasty managers gushing when he landed with the Bills, so no one will be surprised if he can keep this up, given the need for more 11 personnel with Dawson Knox sidelined.

Gabe Davis is a talented but inconsistent receiver who has taken over games when he gets hot. He has three games with 87 or more receiving yards this season and another in which he posted 61. However, in the other four games, he failed to top 35 receiving yards, bottoming out at one reception for six receiving yards off five Week 7 targets. He’s averaging 54.3 receiving yards per game. As the number two receiver in Buffalo, he should have more production than Shakir, but his noted inconsistency can make this challenge interesting.

Fantasy Bingo

Week 8 was a little better in terms of achievements completed, but I still walked away without a win. There were two cards with two of four corner square achievements but nothing that had much of a chance due to the surrounding squares. In the hopes of addressing my dry spell, I purchased 10 bingo cards for the first time this season. The hope is that more cards will help me avoid the evil RNG monster from leaving me with little hope for a win. The results were encouraging. There are as many as four cards with a potential corner square to monitor.

Corners I will be monitoring include the following achievements. On one card, we have more than 15 rushing attempts (RB), more than 200 total yards (RB), three total TDs (RB), and more than 150 total yards (WR). The three total TDs is specific and will be the hardest of these achievements. On the second card I will be monitoring, I have more than 100 total yards (WR), two field goals made (K), more than three receiving TDs (RB), 100 rushing yards + five receptions (RB). The field goals and receiving TD achievements are the tougher ones here. On the third card with some hope, we have three total TDs (WR & RB), six to nine receptions (WR), and more than 125 total yards (TE). The three total TD achievements are the most difficult. Finally, on the fourth card with a corner to monitor, we have three total TDs (RB), more than three receiving TDs (WR), more than 100 total yards (WR), and more than 100 receiving TDs (WR). The running back achievement is the hardest here due to its specificity.

Difficult achievements included on my cards this week include two TDs rushing + one receiving TD + one passing TD (RB), three passing TDs in the second quarter (QB), one rushing TD in the second quarter (WR), 25 rushing yards (TE), 90 receiving yards (RB), zero field goals made (K), more than 50 rushing yards (WR), one rushing TD and two receiving TDs (RB), 500 total yards (QB), 100 rushing yards (QB), five field goals made (K), two receiving TDs in the fourth quarter (RB), one rushing TD in the fourth quarter (WR), three field goals missed (K), more than three sacks (QB), more than four passing TDs in the third quarter (QB), and more than four passing TDs in the fourth quarter (QB). These, of course, are not the only challenging achievements, as there are oddly specific achievements like the three passing TDs in the second quarter littered across the skill positions. There are also more doable but far from a sure thing achievements like 125 receiving yards (TE), 150 receiving yards (WR), and two TDs rushing plus one receiving (RB). These all seem to be common achievements that have shown up each week.

My roster for this week is Lamar Jackson, Saquon Barkley, Raheem Mostert, Austin Ekeler, Tyreek Hill, A.J. Brown, Travis Kelce, and Tyler Bass. I picked Bass because he has been inconsistent lately. Hill and Brown are the hottest receivers in the NFL. Lamar has the most rushing upside of healthy quarterbacks. And finally, Kelce for the exorbitant TE achievements that always pop up. My running back stable has no Christian McCaffrey this week, so I tapped Austin Ekeler. Good luck to all on your Fantasy Bingo cards this week!
