NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (11/14)

NHL DraftKings & FanDuel DFS Primer: Tuesday (11/14)

Tonight’s NHL schedule sees 18 teams hit the ice for a total of nine games. Below I’ve crafted a DFS hockey lineup that I’ve locked in at DraftKings. This lineup can be used in the classic $50,000 salary format, and I’ve also listed the prices at FanDuel. Let’s dive into who I believe will have a big night in the National Hockey League!

Today’s NHL DFS Picks & Analysis

Lineup below is based on DraftKings, but FanDuel prices are also listed.

C1: Evgeni Malkin ($7,300 DK, $8,500 FD)

One of the key matchups I’m eyeing tonight is the Penguins vs. the Blue Jackets. We should be in for a ton of goals in Columbus tonight, considering this is the highest betting total on the board at 6.5 (Over -125).

The Penguins’ offense has been heating up over their recent four-game win streak, scoring 5.0 goals per game. Enter Evgeni Malkin, who is Pittsburgh’s leading goalscorer with eight tucks. He has also matched that mark with another eight helpers. Altogether, he’s tied with Jake Guentzel (5G, 11A) for the point lead. Pittsburgh will have a favorable matchup tonight against a Columbus side that’s 28th in expected goals against per 60 minutes (3.47). Look for the centerman to get in on the scoring action.

C2: Brayden Schenn ($4,200 DK, $5,400 FD)

Another game with a total of 6.5 goals tonight will take place in St. Louis as the Blues square off against the visiting Lightning. While the Blues were snake-bitten for a while offensively, they’ve come to life recently, scoring 4.4 goals per game over their recent 4-1-0 stretch.

One of the popular betting angles this season has been to fade Tampa Bay while they’ve been without Andrei Vasileskiy. That’s been a profitable venture, considering the Bolts are just 6-5, and they’ve seen 10 of their 15 games go over the total. I’m expecting a higher-paced game in Missouri tonight, and I think second-line center Brayden Schenn (5G, 4A) will make his way onto the score sheet.

W1: Sam Reinhart ($7,600 DK, $10,100 FD)

After winning two straight games, the Sharks are back to their losing ways. They enter tonight’s action at 2-12-1 and won’t have an easy matchup against the visiting Panthers tonight.

San Jose has easily been the worst defensive team in hockey this year, allowing 4.27 goals per game. They’re also 29th on the penalty kill, killing off just 71.43% of opposing power plays. This should be a great opportunity for Florida’s offense to rack up goals. Let’s ride with Sam Reinhart, who leads the Cats with 21 points (11G, 10A). He’s also third on the team in SOG (46), and he’s one of four players averaging north of 20:00 TOI. Look for Reinhart to have a monster game tonight.

W2: Evan Rodrigues ($5,100 DK, $5,900 FD)

I’ll also play Reinhart’s linemate, Evan Rodrigues, to have a big night in San Jose. Playing alongside Reinhart has made Rodrigues the beneficiary of a ton of points. He has 13 points this season, 10 of which have come via the assist. The winger also gets power play time, where he has notched two points (2A).

W3: Pavel Buchnevich ($4,700 DK, $4,800 FD)

To round out our wingers, I’ll throw Pavel Buchnevich into the lineup. As I mentioned above, we should see a ton of goals in St. Louis tonight, so I’ll play this top-line winger. Buchnevich has put up seven points so far this season, which have come on four goals and three assists. He’s a solid depth option for tonight’s slate.

D1: Kris Letang ($4,600 DK, $5,200 FD)

The other Penguin that I want to take a shot with tonight is Kris Letang. The veteran d-man still logs 24:35 worth of ice time each night, leading the team. He has racked up seven points, which have come courtesy of one goal and six helpers. Sure, Erik Karlsson gets more power play opportunities nowadays, but Letang makes a great cheap option for a game that should have a lot of goals.

D2: Mikhail Sergachev ($4,400 DK, $5,400 FD)

The final player from the Bolts vs. Blues game that I’ll play tonight is defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. The d-man trails only Victor Hedman (3G, 14A) amongst Tampa’s defensive core in scoring. Sergachev has notched eight points this season (8A), and he has seen five of those helpers come on the man-advantage. It’s worth noting that St. Louis is just 23rd on the PK, killing off 75% of opposing power plays.

G: Logan Thompson ($8,100 DK, $8,800 FD)

The goaltending choice seems pretty straightforward tonight. I’m riding with either Adin Hill or Logan Thompson of the Vegas Golden Knights. It’s unconfirmed who will go tonight, but it doesn’t matter as this is simply a fade of Washington’s offense. The Caps have been horrendous offensively this season, scoring just 2.3 goals per game (31st). They’re also 30th on the power play, cashing at only 7.89% (3-38). Look for this stout Vegas defense to stand up tonight while the netminder turns in a great outing.

UTIL: Logan Cooley ($3,900 DK, $5,100 FD)

Behind Connor Bedard (-275), Logan Cooley sits with the second-shortest odds (+800) to win the Calder Trophy this season. The rookie center is putting together an excellent freshman campaign in the desert, racking up 11 points (1G, 10A).

If the Yotes want to hang around with the Stars tonight, the power play will have to find success. They’ve been cashing at a 29.09% clip this year, which is fifth in the NHL. Cooley has notched eight of his helpers on the top line of the Arizona power play. I think he makes a valuable option to round out our roster tonight.
